  • But if you snag one you think is ugly it will cause tension, so keep that in mind.
  • I find a seat helps.
  • Personalize it to make it oh-so very you. For example: I built a badass stereo out of car parts and a lights system using an arduino for my bike.

I'm thinking LED flashers on either side. Red and green for boatlight/airplane light effect.

Unfortunately, I don't know of a place to buy playing cards and clothespins offhand, but you should definitely look into this.

EDIT: Wait, I forgot we live in the future. Amazon exists.

  • Is a straw man still a straw man if the argument is made by someone with limited knowledge of the issue?

For example sea level rise is discussed as part of climate change. Most figures use a 100 year timespan and suggest a rise of around a meter or so.

If someone that is not a climate scientist makes a claim of '50 feet in ten years' and opponents of climate change use that claim to attack climate change is that still considered a straw man?

If they're not arguing against that specific non-climate-scientist, then yes. Or rather, their argument is only valid as it pertains to the '50 feet in ten years' claim rather than the '1 meter in 100 years' claim.

Get yourself some red and green EL wire and use an arduino to controll them.
  • For anyone who has seen this, is the British drama series "I, Claudius" (starring Derek Jacobi, Brian Blessed, etc) a good substitute for the book?
  • How exactly does one "close" a national park?

I understand they'll go around giving people the boot, but then what? Aren't NPS staff being furloughed too? After everyone's out, then what, who's watching the entrance?

The park employees are not an essential service, so they are shut down. The police are not. If it's a federal park, there are US Police that are there. I've seen them at Riis Park in NYC.

  • Who's watching the borders of the park, which is often only a fence in the forest? No one probably. Even with someone at the gate people can still get in.
  • The shutdown is pragmatic as well. If there's no budget, then even if they leave them open, they can't continue to perform routine maintenance. Trail patrols, garbage collection, trash pickup, security, guides: none of these things have funding.

I'm sure some people will get into larger parks and do their usual thing. But, if they have trouble and need assistance, they're fucked.
  • You can swim on the beach when there are no life guards. Good luck with that.

Darwinism in action if you drown.
  • Its not even no life gaurds really. Getting into most national parks (I mean the wilderness ones) would just be an enourmous pain. Outside of Yellowstone and Yosemite, which are very built up, most parks have very limited access. "Jumping the fence" would either entail ditching your car on the side of the road at the gates (possibly a good distance from trails), breaking the gates, or basically no trail backpacking to the park. On top of that services like clean water, maps, and electricity may be unavailiable. So yeah only the most hardcore are going to even try to make the effort. That said minor unmanned parks may still be effectly open.

It is very good but no it is not a subsitute for the book. They are both very good but in their own way. Also its not in latain so fnarf fnarf snobbery.
  • Can anyone get me a source on "John Calhoun, if you secede from my nation I will secede your head from the rest of your body"? The first two pages of google yield nothing reliable.
  • Sounds like a stinking federalist to me.

More usefully Tv Tropes and wikiquotes claims that was Andrew Jackson. Seems to fit his temper.

  • Wikiquote said it was citation needed. TV tropes I don't trust for this.

    Many of the forum folks?

  • I do, off and on however virtually no one I know on a day to day basis uses it, they are all stuck in the hell hole that is Facebook.

I've been using Twitter much more actively for some reason.
  • I "use" G+ in same way I "use" Twitter, which is really passively. It's always open on one tab and I occasionally look if there's anything interesting there, but I rarely post anything myself.
  • I'm going to be doing some art streams again, and it seems that Twitch is cracking down on streaming licensed music, which is usually what I have going in the background when I do these. Is there some kind of open music stream which can be rebroadcast for these purposes? I've tried googling around but I have a feeling I'm using the wrong terms.
  • I'm trying to find a music video. But I don't remember the band or song. The music is electronic. There are two guys riding a subway. The band I think. There is a young woman looks like she is a run away/drug addict. A tall imposing rastafarian guy who seems to be stalking her. Or she thinks he is. The video ends with the two guys leaving the train. Music video came out during the 1990's.
