Indiana about to cut all Planned parenthood funding

Comments

  • *sigh* Good greif.
  • Man, fuck that shit.
  • The first state? I thought South Dakota had that dubious honor.
  • You know, this is really starting to get boring. Not even infuriating. Just boring. Find someone else to deny funding to Republicans! Try Acorn, or the ACLU. Try to get non-Christian religions taken off of the official "recognized religion list." I'm just free-associating here. Try to limit government funding or the arts. Maybe try to get the DVD release of Lars Von Trier's movies banned in your state on the grounds that they are "anti-Christian and anti-American." Try to get a release of some comic banned. Try to ban all M rated video games in your state. Diversification! Come on! Don't focus on just Planned Parenthood. The quickest way to become irrelevant is to be a one issue party and the quickest way to lose all your money is to NOT FUCKING DIVERSIFY YOUR PORTFOLIO!! DIVERSIFY! DIVERSIFY! FUCKING DO THAT SHIT! The only reason you continue to exist is to amuse us with your terrifyingly entertaining antics. Mitch Hedberg, Louis C.K., Patton Oswalt, Bill Hicks, Chris Rock, and David Cross didn't get famous just repeating the same line over and over again. They though of FUCKING DIFFERENT BITS! And that's what the Republican party needs. A new bit. 'Cause this one is fuckin' old.
  • Why does it seem like when they talk about how good the "good old days" were they mean how cool it was when they were growing up in Rome during the 3rd Punic war? Is this the last gasp of a ruling class that can't hear the barbarians, by barbarians I mean progress, at the gates?

It's seriously getting to the point where I wanna say fuck it, you wanna live in the middle ages? Well fine, live there. Turn all of your midwest states into the Christian nation you so desire. Outlaw womens health! Get rid of all of the social safety nets! Live in your very own Ayn Rand porno!

And when all of that crashes down around your ears, I shan't feel an ounce of sympathy. Not for your poor who will suffer, not for the rich who stand upon their backs, not for the middle class that foolishly believes that one day they'll benefit from the tax cuts for the top 1%, not for the sick who couldn't get treated if they sold themselves into slavery.

Sometimes, it seems to me, you have to give someone enough rope to hang themselves with.

And who knows? It may well work out dandy and all of us will have to stand back and go "Wow, I guess Ayn Rand was right! Where's my copy of Atlas Shrugged, I need to brush up on my objectivism"

I don't think they'd have a problem with that. Let's all come to the agreement that it's a bit crazy to expect a country as large and diverse as ours to be managed under one common set of social values and rules. Keep the federal gov't out of these issues and let the states give their populations what they want. If you live in crazytown, pick up your shit and move to where there are like-minded people.

Many people can't easily move, especially with the housing market what it is. They also can't choose where they're born.

The last time we let states decide, half of them kept slaves. Most of them deny homosexuals basic civil rights. The federal government needs to enforce minimum standards universally, especially regarding basic human rights.

Damn Feds interfering with our lives, telling us, "gays are people too." >_>

I would definitely agree that the issues surrounding homosexuality are a human rights issue that needs to be mandated at the federal level. It's sad that it is even an issue to begin with. The issue in this thread was funding Planned Parenthood with tax dollars, and while I prefer to live in an area where Planned Parenthood is available, I can't fault a state for making it go fully private if that's what their population really wants.

Honestly, I consider it basic health care, which should be guaranteed to all.

Of course you can't. You're a dude and you're not thinking outside of your own zone.

Things like pap smears, breast exams, and STD testing (which women are more susceptible to contracting) are both necessary to maintaining our health AND expensive, particularly if you don't have insurance. This effectively grants a good part of Indiana's female population all of the fun things that come along with being unable to afford these things. So which population is it that "really wants" the de-funding of planned parenthood?

Just as a group of godfearing straight people shouldn't be deciding the rights of gay people, neither should the funding of women's health be decided by a council of grumpy old dicks.

If transportation and housing were trivial issues, I'd agree with this sentiment. Sadly, geography exists and we've yet to make the problems of moving around marginal.

As someone who grew up in crazytown, no really, it's not that easy.

    Edited for more better grammar.
