  • I used to wear one at work but not anymore as I don't dress as fancy as I used to.

Call it "Alfred" and I'm in.
No, no,no! It has to be Jeeves! Go back and watch Wooster and Jeeves, that is some classic shit right there.
  • I've gotten too used to my diver's watch which I stubborn wore during the length of time that wristwatches were considered unstylish.

Awwwwww yeah diving watches. I've got a Seiko automatic here that's waterproof to 200m (lol, going to 200m with exposed wrists). I think the farthest I've been down with it is 120ft at Molokini Crater. Regardless, its one of my most prized possessions, though the chain needs repair. The lock clasp that closes over the chain closure has bent and pops open with the slightest movement.
  • I always wear this:

But it hasn't worked in years.

If you've ever even gotten your diver's watch wet it's seen more diving than 98% of all diver's watches that people buy and wear.
  • I used to have one then it got run over by a car :(

So here is what used to look like.

Sad but true. I really like Oris watches, but the titanium bodies make the prohibitively expensive. I'm also a big fan of the Suunto Mosquito and their D series, mainly because they have integrated dive computers.

  • I like the new guy.
  • I'm a girl but thanks.
  • New guy is a unisex term, like dude.

    Yeah, bro.

I'm used to using "guy" as a unisex term even when it's not preceded by "New." However, only when plural, as in, "Hey, guys!"

    Yeah, bro.
According to the Bro Code, a girl can also be a Bro.
So, welcome to the forums Bro.

  • Bro-oh, King of Bro.

    Kenshir-bro?
  • He harnesses the power of hokubro shinken.
  • I wore a pocket watch throughout high school and university up until I owned a cell phone. (Cell phones used to not be commonly owned or used).

The fact you felt it necessary to explain this makes me feel old.
  • I don't think he did. I think he was just trying to do exactly that. That being said, I don't remember that time, so go ahead and feel old now.
  • I remember when cell phones only made phone calls. Those were dark times.

Even some of the earliest cellphones had clocks in them, but they were not pocket sized. Even when phones began to be pocket-sized and included clocks, they often had their screens turned off or you had to flip them open to see the time. At one time it was an advanced feature to have a phone that had an extra external screen with the time on it. Once that happened, watches were dead.

I think many watches are cool, such as the Tokyo Flash watches, http://www.tokyoflash.com/en/watches/1/, but I think actually wearing a watch these days is stupid. If you are a person who needs to know the time, you probably have a phone. Even people in the most remote places on earth have phones now with SMS. If you have a phone, a watch is redundant.

I'm waiting for a day when you don't need a phone anymore, and the watch is the phone. Instead of a smartphone in my pocket, I want a smartphone on my wrist that is slightly smaller than the current iPod nano.
  • Speaking of cool watches, specifically pocket watches, Check this sucker out.

Just how many watchmakers are so confident in their product that they put both 100 and 1000 Year indicators on their watches?

Watchmakers confident enough that their watches will be out-of-vogue and forgotten long before they hit those first hundred years.
