It's actually an MP4 container they give the name GIFv. Same with GFYcat. Smaller size and hardware accelerated among other benefits. Though flaming skulls will never look quite right again.
This timelapse only spanned about 7 minutes, each picture 5 second apart.
I've done longer lapses, but the go pro battery tends to die out way before the memory. I think I get at least a 2 hours.
Still looking for ways to extend the battery in outdoor situations.
My camera can be plugged in. There's a fake battery-shaped thing with a wire coming out called a DC coupler. Then there's an AC adapter you plug into it. If you aren't near an outlet, you can get any source of AC power like a giant battery, car with power outlets, or portable generator.

He was outside on a roof. I don't think that would be accessible...

This is a GIF I just made of myself, snapping at the sunset.
Getting better at making these loops.

I would go for this since it's a waterproof solution. However I was hoping for something with a bit more battery.
I've yet to find a 3rd party waterproof "BacPac" battery, that's just ridiculously high capacity.
