There's no e-Umlaut. There's only an e with Diaeresis. It doesn't appear in german, but in several other languages.

For those of you using Windows in the US, you can also use the US International Keyboard layout, which will let you type accented characters without having to memorize random Alt-key combinations.

For those of you with keypads on your keyboards(i.e. most of you):
Alt + 0228 = ä
Alt + 0235 = ë
Alt + 0239 = ï
Alt + 0246 = ö
Alt + 0252 = ü

Experiment! Find unicode symbols in your very own US configured keyboard!

For people using Windows, don't forget about charmap. Still works for this sort of thing.
