Seriously a great article. It made me miss PAX. It also made me realize that I have been doing too much of the same thing of mostly tabletop gaming at the past PAX events. I would have loved to have seen the Mario Kart Double Dash Omegathon round. The story about Nerdgasm is great.
I will definitely be checking out other things at PAX East next year. When I'm not doing that, of course, I'll be playing tabletop games.

I have a new goal. I'm going to do every part of PAX at least once. I will be an Enforcer once, an Exhibitor once, an Omeganaut once, etc. Assuming I don't die freakishly early in life, I should have plenty of PAXes to accomplish this. The hardest parts will be becoming keynote speaker, musical guest, and vendor.

We can just buy a space. It's not even that expensive. Just have people play board games with us at a table while showing ponies in a loop. ;^) Maybe sell crude drawings of genitalia for a dollar.
keynote speaker
This is one of my very real and specific goals for the next several years. First PAX, then TED. ;^) Someday...
musical guest
How's that harmonica coming? In all seriousness, the only way to achieve that one would be to upgrade to B-level celebrity a la Wil Wheaton. I'd say his Trololo counts.
You would be surprised. Some people have anti-rhythm. They can't even tap their finger or foot on a steady beat.
In my ballroom dance class, I've had to dance with some people who are incapable of keeping a beat WHILE MUSIC IS PLAYING. So yeah, this doesn't surprise me.

I too am taking a ballroom dance class. I seem to be awesome at the foxtrot and the tango.
I can also be seen in the highlights video, at 3:41 during the tabletop workshop. It was fun and informative, but I sucked. I really need to play more games...
Just watched some video of the Late Night Pax thing you guys did with the Rooster Teeth people in 2010. a) I now know why Scott shaved his head. b) People on YouTube think you guys sucked, but who gives a shit about them.

We did suck. If you think otherwise, what the fuck did you watch?
Why did you suck? What would you do differently to not-suck if you could go back?
First not have Rooster Teeth on at all. In advance I already felt we had too many guests, and I knew we had not much in common with Rooster Teeth. I just didn't say anything about it since someone else had gone through the trouble to ask them to be on, it would have been a faux pas to tell them to forget it.
Second, prepare a lot more. We went in with only slightly more preparation than we have when we do GeekNights. We needed a Jon Stewart level of preparation with prepared things to say and such. Maybe even have somewhat of a rehearsal.
Three, not be afraid to do more takes.
Four, the only fail that wasn't on us was the video guys. I often forget the lesson that I have learned time and time again which is not to rely on others. Do it right, do it yourself. We did that show in front of cameras that were sitting there without anyone operating them because they didn't show up.

I looked up the old original video, and some dude going by PressStartDaily was kissing some serious ass in the comments, saying he was the one that organised it, and the only thing he didn't have control over was the hosts. Fucking cockhead, maybe if you had your Tongue out of Geoff, Gus and Burnie's ass for a few seconds, you'd have done your fucking job and this disaster might have been just a little smaller - despite the youtube comments, when you hear the RT side of the story, it makes it sound like your lack of control over the hosts isn't an issue, but rather, that you fucked up the rest of your job is. As much as Scrym deserve friendly kick up the arse for the job they did here, it's not entirely their fault.
They do discuss this on their own podcast, I'll hunt which one it was down, and relay that information.
Preparing more will certainly help, and you really need to work on your banter - you banter well with each other, but with people you don't know so much, while you're better now, back then you were not what I'd call fantastic. For example, I find myself incredulous that Rym didn't know what machinima was before that moment, and it's not something that needed to be explained for the audience(if that's what you were going for), since easily 3/4 of them were apparently there to see RT.
Also, a point of contention, Scott - You say "Oh, we didn't have anything in common", well too bad, my friend. You took on the responsibility, and that means you do the job, and you do it to the best of your ability. You and rym failed this time(not at doing you best, at the job overall) - I can't be too harsh on you for that, first time hosting that sort of thing and all - but talking to your super-best buds isn't the job, putting on a good show is. You don't need to have anything in common, because the show is 80% the guests, 10% you, and 10% Rym. If you can't handle the job, where you indeed might not have anything in common with your guest, then you shouldn't take it on, man, you know it just as well as I do.

Does it count if I make it to the music round as an Omeganaut?
Winning a video game tournament that isn't the Omegathon.
Oh, also gotta BMOPC at some point.
Just remember, isosceles triangle is DANGEROUS.
So yeah, this doesn't surprise me.
Scott is famous!
The lighting and audio were pretty bad, so I'm putting up segments as I can.
