Youth league institutes TD limit to hold back 11-year-old
According to Arkansas Fox affiliate Fox 16, 11-year-old Demias Jimerson has emerged as such a dominant running back that the Wilson Intermediate Football League he plays in has reinstated a bylaw called the "Madre Hill rule," which bars him from scoring a touchdown if he has already scored three times and his team has a lead of 14 points or more.
The rule is named after former University of Arkansas star and Oakland Raider Madre Hill, who, like Jimerson, played youth football in the Malvern, Ark., area. Hill proved so adept at getting the ball into the end zone whenever he touched it that the WIFL came up with the rule to try and keep scores from getting too out of hand.

...

For his part, Jimerson said he's OK with the ruling, though he was surprised when it was first implemented. He also knows that when he becomes a seventh-grader in 2012 no limits will be applicable, so it will be impossible to penalize him for scoring too much.

After he reaches the limit he should go off the field and came back with a cheesy mustache and go by the name Juan Kickass.

So I haven't been able to find anything about the Madre Hill Rule that isn't connected to this kid, so I'll have to take everyone's word that is exists to even the playing field.

Naturally, since this is about that right wing darling - *sigh* - football, there is a general internet consensus that the simpering liberal conspiracy of mediocrity, which has worked in the shadows for decades to destroy America in the name of [INSERT REVILED OTHER HERE], has turned its dark attentions on hobbling this Ayn-Randian demigod.

When we see kids like Demias Jimerson, we want to think that we are seeing the opening acts of a life that will set the world on fire and any action taken by anyone that doesn't satisfy this fantasy must be denounced as liberal faggorty. The thing is, being dominant at 11 years old is no guarantee of success in pro ball. Here is the link to Madre Hill's pro stats (who the rule was originally created for) provided in the article. He did a bit more in College and Europe according to his Wikipedia page but due to various neck and knee injuries he never did much.

Right now this kid says his priorities are "God, grades, then touchdowns". This is good as even people who have rules about being too good at football named after them aren't guaranteed to become NFL stars. Hopefully he rides his skill to a top flight university and gets a quality education.

I suspect that rules like this have more to do with preventing the exploitation and mono-purposing kids as young as Demias. If the football machine is allowed to turn him into a one note "football or nothing" jock, he'll just be chewed up like the tens of thousands of other jocks you never hear about in the exploitative college football system.

This story is just as much about American misunderstanding what what socialism is as it is a critique of the primacy of equality.

True, but in this particular case I'm referring to the latter.

My question is what level is he playing at? My opinion differs depending on whether the "Wilson Intermediate Football League" is a "pro-farm" or just a little football league for kids that want to play. I knew a guy that was in special athletics schools even in elementary (his father was in the NBA) and so he played specifically as training to get into highly rated highschool programs to get into highly rated college programs to get into the NFL. If it's one of those systems, limiting the scoring seems petty and silly to me. On the other hand, if this is the equivelent of what I played in as a little kid, then limits are fine. The purpose of the latter type of league is more for a combination of soccer moms (football dads?) and kids having fun playing a game. Also, if that's the case, maybe his parents should examine other options where the kid can play with other kids closer to his level.

The fact that I am currently in the middle of re-reading/finishing that manga at the moment makes me love this comment even more.
