EDIT 2: Oh, btw, I'm adapting to the new trend of not being able to edit. Take it to the extreme and then the actual edit time won't feel as horrible. For the next 12 weeks I will act as if there is no edit button. Like there is no "Block User" button on Apreche's posts anymore.
EDIT 3: It seems like some people can post between my post and my edits. This is upsetting, please don't do this people. It fucks with the flow. Thank you.
@Nuri Look, to clear this up for the fifth time: I am not bitching about the change. I am not good with HTML. I'm assuming others are not good at HTML as well. Google has provided depth to the tags, but I'm also looking to create something more concise. Searching for a specific tag is far easier when the most commonly used are in one thread as opposed to another website.
I also find it very arrogant that several people are complaining about other people trying to adapt to a problem.
Not everyone is good/familiar with html. This is my attempt to remedy that instead of saying "fuck you, you're on your own". Stop criticizing me for being helpful and trying to make things more convenient.
@Joe Boomer: I'd love to see the code and tags for that post with the spoiler, BBcode and HTML and whatever else you got.
Also, if someone could put up how to make linked text as opposed to just the linked web address, I'm sure it'd be helpful.
Any-who, Here's a quick summary of helpful tags posted, since I can't edit my original post: To link something, just write the url. To put Youtube video on the comment just copy-paste the url. To post an image <img src="http://picture.jpg" /> To quote someone <blockquote rel=PersonsName></p></div></blockquote> *There are no /p or /div tags between the blockquote tags. The forum is doing that on its own. As of the time of this post, if the person you are quoting has a space or unusual character in their name, they will not be quoted correctly. Additionally, the name of the person you are quoting will not appear in the 'preview post' tab no matter what, although it will appear when you post your comment. CSS works just fine in the forum, for those who know it. Use <code> to give examples of coding. Make sure to use a closing </"font, color, etc."> to close all tags. Forgetting that little backslash is a common mistake. <b> bold </b> bold <em> italic </em>italic <i> emphased </i>emphased <s> wrong </s> wrong <u><s> wrong and needs to die </s></u> wrong and needs to die <font color=red> red </font>red <font color=green> green</font>green <font face="system"> systematic </font>I can't let you write this, Dave <u>underlined</u>underlined
@GreatTeacherMacross Here's an idea. Don't do any of those things. Don't bold text. Don't change text colors. Don't underline. Don't strike through. Don't italicize. Those things are rarely necessary, if ever. Just don't do them. The forum will be much more beautiful and easier to read if people aren't changing font sizes and colors and styles all over the place. Just text and links is enough. The only tag you should ever use is the img tag. That's really what I'm going for here.

The three first lines are still relevant. Quote comes automatically with the button, so no real need to have that in the guide. Also that's missing the spoiler tag, that's something that could be quite useful and something that people might want to use. Also sometimes people might want a link that looks nice instead of long long url.

The spoiler tag is probably going to change from bbcode style to HTML style. Consider it beta. Also, I like it better when people put in the full URL. That prevents things like rickroll and such. Even if I grant you that one we can still safely say that all people need to learn is the img tag and the a tag.
It's good to be able to see where you are going. Using URL shorteners is especially bad for security and safety.
What I really want to do is to get StackOverflow style footnote URLs. That's where all through your post there are no links just footnotes like [1] and [2]. Then all the links are at the bottom of your post.

Whenever there is a link that invites me to click it and I haven't clicked it before and don't have absolute trust to the source, I first move my mouse on top of it and take a little peek at down-left corner of the firefox to see where the link is taking me.

Have you considered something like this? Also, it would be really cool to allow Markdown, if it was possible to use that and the html formatter.
EDIT: I posted in the relevant section of the Vanilla forums, so maybe something will come of this.

Something like that is only relevant in long posts. Don't really see the need for that here, we don't have too many walls of text.
@Adam That's great. You are awesome. Guess what? My comment wasn't about you. There are other people talking in this thread too. Assume that I was addressing those other people's comments, particularly when I target part of my point directly at Pete and his mobile phone forum browsing obsession.
I think it's great to have a place that gives people basic references for HTML. I was simply pointing out that a bajillion of them already exist on the internet, and also that you don't have to be very familiar with HTML to find and use some of the basics. If someone wants to make a thread that compiles them in one place, cool. Of course, the 15 minute edit limit is going to put a severe damper on your ability to add anything to the first post of a thread now, and wading through a long thread to find the tag you need is about as convenient as parsing search links.
ETA: Heck, maybe the best way to address all this stuff, including the forum hints & tips, is to have a Help page and eliminate that sticky.

This is my biggest complaint by a large margin. Not just "oh this is annoying" but it has risen to the level of "this is fucking stupid, change this shit."

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - Sure, it solved a problem, but it solved a problem that was rarely if ever present. It's inconveniencing everybody to prevent something that practically never happens anyway, and even when it does, is literally no problem and no real trouble - it's not like people are blowing up the server with C4, They're just deleting their old posts.
What, you think that's cowardice? So what? If they are cowards, then they are cowards, and take their fleeing as a sign of your victory. I'd rather have to waste a few milliseconds ignoring a deleted post, rather than be stuck with this fucking stupid edit time limit.
It worked, it just didn't do what you thought it did.
Actually, I wasn't the idiot who couldn't read. That was Jason. The button clearly stated, in its title text, that it would block HTML code, or more clearly, disable its interpretation.

Apreche just wanted to start a Cold War against me. We all know this little blue planet revolves around me, so yeah. Conspiracy theorists go. I need a more concise and wordy explanation as to why the man on these forums is terrorising the forums' netizens.

Instead using the default Iframe embed code that youtube gives you just use the html5 embed <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lZTZ2dT-3Ww?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" />
You also can edit the width and height similar to the iframe code <embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/lZTZ2dT-3Ww?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0" width="200" height="200" />

Frankly, with the amount of mess, problems and drama this has caused, I'd being fucking it off and going to chill in a hot spring too.
