Haven't been watching new things in the past 2 or 3 years. Have I missed anything?
Madoka was supposed to be good?

I already know how Redline is awesome, and Buddha is the greatest thing ever. And that there is a Bersek movie.

  • Have you seen Durarara yet?
  • Oh, I guess that is pretty recent. Yeah, I saw those as the BDs came out. The last half anyway.

Was Iron Man, Wolverine or X-Men any good?
  • Haven't seen any of the Marvel stuff.

Only must sees in terms of series from 2010 and 2011 I can tell are Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Nichijou and Durarara.

  • I'm a big fan of Bakuman, but it's an acquired taste. A lot of people don't like it because the motivation of the story is a bit odd, but I think it's a solid B anime.

Heroman is complete shit. Haven't heard a single good thing about it but tons of bad things. I avoided it at all cost.

High School of the Dead is kind of an anime that is so bad its good. The premise is pretty cliche and there is a ton of fanservice, but it is kinda entertaining in its audacity.

I'm only reading the Manga for Toriko, but it is a good series. Think "Kenshiro hunting delicious and extremely dangerous foodstuffs".

Nichijou is on my must see list. It is a more surreal Azumanga Daioh, and it's awesome.

Mirai Nikki is a weird little series. It doesn't have too much depth to it, but it is entertaining and one of the series I'm currently watching.

I've also heard good things about Tiger & Bunny and Usagi Drop, but I haven't gotten around to watch either.

Noted! I'll take Heroman off my list of things that might be interesting then. Nichijou you've recommended twice now so I guess that goes onto my "Do actually watch this" list". =P

Definitely watch Anohana. Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai is the full title, but that is SO LONG.
I got a little turned off to it in the first episode because it had a little ecchi joke, but really, the series is very heartfelt. It's an interesting show about loss, a ghost story that isn't scary at all. The end made me cry quite a bit.
I'd say watch No. 6, but I'll warn you I was kinda disappointed. I built it up in my head before I saw it because it was like a show that was engineered to be to my taste and it ended up being kinda meh, but it is still better than many shows. I was happy at it, because finally an anime featured a male/male couple as the main characters, but wasn't all concerned about their relationship, but rather the adventures that they have.

  • Male/Male couple as in an actual couple, or just 2 male leads? Because the latter isn't that rare. I've heard of Ano hi mita hana no namaeo wo bokutachi ha mada shiranai before, and what made me intrigued was actually the title. Sounded like it would be... nostalgic and melodramatic and I like that. But had forgot about it.

Edit: Oh hey I've visted the Wikipedi-- oh I was already gonna watch this =P Now I know it's good! Thanks for the recommendation on No 6 as well. If it's only kinda slightly above average, I don't feel like it's worth the time though, as I have so darn many things to watch that I basically aren't ever gonna run out. So watching anything that isn't "great" doesn't really make sense. Unless stupid fun, cause I'm all for stupid fun =P

They kiss a few times, but it isn't super make out time. And there's definitely this protective emotional thing going on.

Anyway, like I said, No. 6 is kinda meh, but I would say it is better than a lot of things on your list.

    Also, my picks for Spring:
Sakamichi no Apollon - Watanabe+Yoko Kanno together again? A show with Jazz? Unlikely friends? Sounds like a plan! I am optimistic, especially after reading a little bit of the manga.
Uchuu Kyoudai - Space Brothers! Brothers make a promise that they will be astronauts. One fulfills the dream, and the other is kinda full of fail-at-life, until one day...
I saw this in Kinokuniya, looked cool. I am up for anything with talk about the Space Program! (minus shows that have Sherpa Sex.)

Oh that list isn't-- If you've seen more of them, tell me about them so I can cross them off the list! =P No 6 added to my watch-list then.

Edit: Turns out it's not actually out yet =P TV rips it is then!

Avoid the Anohana Manga. Seriously why Japan ಠ_ಠ

I've heard good things about Mawaru-Penguindrum but haven't seen it yet myself if anyone has a yay or nay on that show.

Natsume's Book of Friends isn't anything outstanding but a good B- show that mostly episodic. Watching it out of order will confuse you with come character introductions in some of the multi-episode stories.

Squid Girl season 1 is a good lighthearted series but jumps the shark on season 2.

Tiger & Bunny good B show. Don't be turned off by the CG and advertising in the show. It will make sense after a few episodes.

Wandering Son - as with Mawaru I have heard good things about the show but haven't had the time to start it yet.

Gundam Unicorn is also a B show if you like UC timeline gundam. Still is coming out in long ova episodes.

Arrietty is a more recent Miyazaki backed movie that I enjoyed. Not directed by Miyazaki but Hiromasa Yonebayashi who worked on Mononoke, Spirited Away, and did key animation on Ponyo. Also did key animation on Monster.

  • What does the manga do =P? Actually may you shouldn't tell me... I'm not much of a manga person anyway, so there's that.

Is Natsume's Book of Friends anything like xxxHolic? Quick Google searched made it look like it. It has a dragon, I'm in.

Squid girl was actually good? In Tiger and Bunny, the advertisers sponsor the characters, correct? Why use real companies though? Does it do the thing where the TV version has a bunch of ads, but the BD versions don't? Cause if it plays a role into the story, that would be odd to watch =P

Gundam Unicorn I'm waiting till the last episode is out on Mai 19 then gonna watch them all. Arrietty I already saw.

Wandering Son is good. I have watched about half of it. I recommend both this one and Aoi Hana for being really nice portrayals of coming of age as trangendered or lesbian, respectively. They are by the same manga author

Nothing good trust me on that.

Somewhat but has a different feel to it.

I watched it and enjoyed the series. It does get bad after season 1. They ran out of ideas I think due to it being a 4 koma. I really didn't watch past episode 1 of season 2.

As for tiger & bunny. The advertising part of the show does effect the story. They don't mention advertisers by name due to obvious reasons. It sometimes will force the characters to make a decision because they rely on the money to live. It is a little campy in some episodes however.

Gundam Unicorn I'm waiting till the last episode is out on Mai 19 then gonna watch them all. Arrietty I already saw.
Happens to finish on my birthday. Awesome.

  • Usagi Drop was really good. It about a single man who decides to raise his grandfather illegitimate daughter. Stay away from the manga though there is a time skip that take the series to creepy territory.
  • Oh scratch that on Anohana. I was thinking of the Usagi manga M_M. Put it so far out of my mind ugh why japan.

  • Anohana is a good one that's about the childhood ghost girl who returns to help her best friends resolve their grief and issues with each other.

The only stuff on that list that I'd suggest are:
    • Highschool of the Dead - hilarious fanservice first, zombies second, all T&A, little girl is little girl and not pedo bait
    • Steins;Gate - "Hey, mister. I am mad scientist! It's so cool, sonuvabitch."
    • Tiger & Bunny - entertaining, second half is weaker
    • Bunny Drop - Usagi Drop, adorable and well done
    • Nichijou - funny show, pretty crazy sometimes
The rest I either haven't bothered checking out, or is just bad (Bakuman, Heroman, Occult Academy, No. 6). Ano Hana ending gets retardedly melodramatic to the point where I couldn't stop crying because I was laughing too much. The rest of the show is entertaining, but not great at any point.
I got a little turned off to it in the first episode because it had a little ecchi joke.
As if the rest of the show had any less. Not as bad as Fractale (WORSE) but I recall the show not really being more high-brow than that joke.
    Mawaru Penguindrum
Seen a few episodes, it has some crazy stuff and is entertaining.
    Natsume's Book of Friends
Aww man, I've been neglecting my watching of that show. So good in terms of just sit back and relax levels. Episode upon episode of short, sweet story handled similarly to how Bunny Drop is handled. No worries, just relaxation.
Squid Girl season 1 is a good lighthearted series but jumps the shark on season 2.
What episode does it jump on? I've only bothered watching 2 episodes of season 2. I vouch for season one being entertaining, as long as Tits McGeeeyou'reshy isn't anywhere near screen.
Tiger & Bunny good B show. Don't be turned off by the CG and advertising in the show. It will make sense after a few episodes.
You mean "You won't notice shit after episode one" because you'd have to be an idiot to get bothered by that. It's no different from sponsor ads plastered over competitors in sports.
Wandering Son - as with Mawaru I have heard good things about the show but haven't had the time to start it yet.
Yes. Also fuck you people. Am I the only one here who actually finished that show? It's good. Now fuck off till you finish watching it.
Arrietty is a more recent Miyazaki backed movie that I enjoyed. Not directed by Miyazaki but Hiromasa Yonebayashi who worked on Mononoke, Spirited Away, and did key animation on Ponyo. Also did key animation on Monster.
    Good entertainment, decent Ghibli film.

Some stuff I haven't seen mentioned yet and would suggest: Jellyfish Princess, the Young Animator Training Project (4 stand-alone animations), Kaiji season 2, You Are Umasou (much better tearjerker than Ano Hana imho because it's not as retarded, also dinosaurs), Time of Eve, Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt, and of course Bakemonogatari/Nisemonogatari. Probably the best non-porn filth that has been animated.

Time of Eve and Princess Jellyfish are some of the better anime I have seen in the past year or so. My parents like Natsume's Book of Friends, and I liked what I saw of it.

I didn't think Anohana was retarded. Melodramatic, sure, but I thought it was pretty good.

For Squid girl it was mid way though the second season. The show started to just have wacky character episodes instead of thought out gags. Turned me off and seemed repetitive to the point of not enjoying it.

I can vouch for Jellyfish Princess being good along with Bakemonogatari and Kaiji. They did stretch that last arc out a little to far though with the last game. Still they kept the same tension and didn't lose focus.

I have to check out You are Umasou after Wondering Son but I couldn't stand Panty & Stocking the first time though. I'll have to revisit it some time.

  • Deadman Wonderland is like an anime Superjail! with a "must kill the demon by becoming a demon myself, but I want to stay human" kind of plot. If you get into it, it'll keep your interest, but I would give it 2 out of 4 stars.
  • Another, Black Rock Shooter, Madoka, Steins Gate, and Tiger and Bunny were the recent ones I've enjoyed.
  • I didn't think Anohana was retarded. Melodramatic, sure, but I thought it was pretty good.
The show wasn't retarded, the melodrama is retarded in how crazy it becomes. The start of the show's fine and enjoyable, though as a whole it could do without loli ghost.
