Depending on where you ski/snowboard I would argue it is much safer and causes less physical damage than other sports and activities, including biking in the city.

The statistics are not in your favor.
Statistically, life isn't in your favor. 100% of people die.
The idea isn't to end up with some perfectly preserved waxy corpse so that everyone can marvel out how long you lived and how well you dodged the daily risks. You've got 100 years on the outside; have it large. I don't know about you, but I don't want my eulogy to contain the words "remarkably uneventful."

A: Do some dangerous shit and die before accomplishing anything that matters.
B: Live long enough to do something of significance worth remembering.
Just a note, so the NSAA reports about 40 skiing/snowboarding deaths a year. (about 26 from skiing the rest snow boarding) out of ALL skiing they counted each time a person skiied as a unigue trip out of about 60 million days/people skiing across all of the US in one season. Biking kills about 20 people a year in New York city alone.

Most people are very cocksure when they begin the sport.
I'm sorry, but "luck" doesn't make your argument non-fallacious.

I call that about even :-p
168 annual deaths in aircraft. Catch a flight? Congrats, you've already done something riskier than skiing.
We haven't even dealt with the fact that you could die taking minimal risks and never achieve anything anyone really cares about.
And you could get doored while riding your bike and suck dinner through a NG tube for the rest of your life. Happened to a few guys in Chicago last year.
I'm not talking about just dying. Lots of other horrible things happen all the time. Paralyzed? Leg broken? Not on my to do list.
Let me reiterate, most people who hurt themselves are very cocksure. I've been skiing/snowboarding on a really good mountain for 10 years. In all that time the people I've known who got hurt at all were people that did very stupid things or went beyond their abilities when they thought they were ready. I've never broken a bone, the most I've ever done is landed really hard on packed snow. You just get up and brush it off.
Obviously a life where someone has not skied is not a life worth living.
I haven't skied (though I'd like to). I'm just saying it's stupid to rule out something with those particular statistics based on risk, especially when you're already doing riskier things with almost no due consideration.

Stop reading into my statements I'm making fun of Rubin :-p
Interesting points were made about buying a case for smartphones, etc., this ep. Now, I do currently have a case on my iPhone, but that's because I'm a total klutz. I actually dropped my original iPhone a few too many times and ended up breaking it. Structurally and physically it looked fine, but only the top half of the screen responded to touch input and it would only play one song -- Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up" (I'm serious!). Been using a case ever since due to my terminal butterfingers.

Happened to some guy out on Queens this past weekend. But yeah, Forest Park, that's right by my neck of the woods. No pun intended of course. Been riding my bike there myself lately.
Tried it. I sucked. :P Okay, granted, I probably would suck less if I worked at it, but I didn't find it fun enough to justify the time required to be any good at it.

I assume Scott was talking about Forest Park in Forest Hills, Queens, NY on the podcast; which is about a good 4-5 blocks from my apartment; and not too far from Astoria. Unless of course he had a lot of free time and biked all the way to Illinois.

Life's a dangerous game. Deal.
One of my classmate's projects...
Going to be the first fully Free tablet on the market.
(Never said I was very good though, it was about half ski, half barely-controlled tumble. That shit is HARD on sand.) I don't know the one Rym had specifically, but I found two, and a video - One, two, Video that Rym probably saw from CBS.
