Geeks beware!

Japan is no longer the utopia we once thought it was.

  • I hope to eventually see such a group receive their comeuppance when they accidentally accost a geek who is also a martial artist. Preferably one who believes that the best defense is to make the opponent incapable of further offensive action.

    Can I get an Amen?

If those 8 are the only 8 targeting geeks in Japan, it would still be a utopia. I, however, sadly doubt that. There will aways be idiots trying to threaten and beat up geeks no matter how good the society is.

  • You have to remember that "otaku" has entirely different (and far more negative) connotations in Japan. An anime fan or geek isn't an otaku. Otaku are the scary, nerdly ones. Otaku are the fanboys. Otaku are the ones who can't keep polite company. Otaku are only one step above hikikomori. ^_~
  • Anime is not mainstream in Japan guys, other then the major shows and movies like Miyazaki, One Piece, Full Metal Alchemist and Sazae-san most Japanese do not watch anime. The Japanese anime otaku are a sizable (compared to most countries) but still definitely a minority and are generally looked down upon, same as in most of the world.
