  • ...and hello to the future!
Yeah, that future is a long ways in coming...

  • And when it does, traffic will be worse. We'll have to watch out for assholes in the air as well as on the road.
  • All it will take is one person texting-while-flying for everyone to realize what a fucking terrible idea flying cars are.
  • That's not a problem - people won't actually be allowed to fly them because they'll all be controlled by Google.

I am personally more interested in the Flynano, an order of magnitude cheaper than the flying car and most importantly: no pilot license necessary (in Finland, other countries may differ).

    Traffic? Fly past it.
    Toll roads? Fly above them.
Speed limit? 115 MPH in the air. Not bad!

    Terrible idea? I think not.

  • Back to the Future 2 would argue with you :-p No real flying cars until we perfect anti-grav. That or teleporters.

Honestly, though. Maybe they just had the wrong idea with wings. I'm glad this was the actual future:

Old people on the road are scary enough, Old people flying around is enough to start living underground.

  • I'd still favor quality public transportation.

And again someone gets cocky and thinks they're invincible in the air, and crash into something (bonus points for it being the ground) while they're trying to text about how awesome a flying car is.

Meh, to be honest, so long as you aren't trying to do so during take-off/climbs or landing/descents, it's probably reasonably safe to do so. The average pilot actually does spend a fairly significant chunk of time talking on the radio with ATC, looking down at charts, and so on. If you have a decent autopilot, it becomes even less dangerous to take your hands off the controls to do something else, provided you don't spend too much time doing so. Taking 60 seconds or so to send a text when you're flying straight-and-level and you've already looked out all the windows to make sure there aren't any other aircraft within visual range of you probably won't be that dangerous. Of course, when you train to get your pilot license, part of that training is making sure you know when it's safe do things like fiddle with the radios, look at your charts, and so on and when you should really be paying attention to what's going on outside your window (or your instruments if you're flying under instrument rules).

    Socialism!

    (I agree.)

Wait until we get a hyperloop.
That device would need to somehow accelerate a human being to nearly 700MPH and keep her there for 30 minutes to meet Musk's claims. He's going to run into huge problems with G-LOC, if not death.
