Microsoft has announced that they will cripple the computers of users who have pirated copies of Windows Vista. (
see article)
Two concerns:
1) Microsoft's track record for determining who has pirated software is pretty poor. Remember the Genuine Advantage debacle?
2) What if they attempt to cripple a program that I own legally? They've announced that they intend to cripple things like Internet Explorer. (Firefox should be happy about this.) The last time I checked, you could
download this program for free. I wonder if they will cripple the operating system's ability to talk to the internet, which would then cripple your ability to use your browser. We shall have to see.
