Tonight on GeekNights, we take on a high level overview of software testing. Unit testing, QA, UAT: all this can be yours. First, Zynga has seen substantial layoffs (hopefully as a beginning echo of the 80s videogame market collapse for the "free" to play monetization model, the Red Wedding seems to have startled some people, and Google currently won't allow app developers to use glass hardware effectively.

It's hanging in our office, too. We were going to pass it around if you broke production, but it proved unnecessary - now we use a widget two of the other devs developed to award achievements. Most of them are some variation of "you really did it this time".



We also have some badass technical QA - but we don't have enough of them, I had to help out with regression testing last week. I suspect they deserve to get paid more than they are.

I worked with a badass QA lead once. He was a big Russian guy with stories about shady mob connections and was always surrounded by a squad of Russian hacker interns.

Unfortunately, at the same job, I found out that we weren't sanitizing input on a certain field in our webapp when I accidentally crashed a 100,000 person conference call for Obama's Organizing for America. That was the only time I "tested in production," so to speak. I was the lead Tech Support contact, so that was a fun day.

As of version 3.8.6, the SQLite library consists of approximately 89.9 KSLOC of C code. (KSLOC means thousands of "Source Lines Of Code" or, in other words, lines of code excluding blank lines and comments.) By comparison, the project has 1017 times as much test code and test scripts - 91493.0 KSLOC.
