We also have some badass technical QA - but we don't have enough of them, I had to help out with regression testing last week. I suspect they deserve to get paid more than they are.
Unfortunately, at the same job, I found out that we weren't sanitizing input on a certain field in our webapp when I accidentally crashed a 100,000 person conference call for Obama's Organizing for America. That was the only time I "tested in production," so to speak. I was the lead Tech Support contact, so that was a fun day.
