Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School

edited July 2013 in Art!
I've been going to some Dr. Sketchy events for that last few months. I attend my local one in York and when I was on holiday in June I ended up attending one in Sydney.

Of course it started out in New York and it's spread out all over so I'd hope folks here are aware of it.

I really enjoy it. Where I am it's got a good mix of models, it's casual and good for meeting new people and it's got that edge of burlesque which I'd never really seen before.

The one I go to has a theme each time, we've had the Carry On movies, Doctor Who and even Nudity as the themes. It also has challenges like "Draw with your wrong hand!" and "No taking your pencil off the paper!". But the one in Australia didn't have that stuff.

If these guys are running events near you get over to them, it's a great evening out.

Edit: I'll put up some of my not-so-great pictures when I have time.

  • Did anyone else read the thread title and think that Open_Sketch had opened an art school?
  • I briefly wondered if I had done something in a fugue state.
