I had never even considered it before, but I had a guy come to me with what was basically a conspiracy theory that I refused to comment on.
In short, he told me that PAX had too many exhibitors who needed panel space this year, so they decided to make room by not accepting tabletop panels. I know this is false since I already know people with accepted tabletop panels. I had never thought of whether panel space for those big companies was paid, though. That part may or may not be true, but it ain't no conspiracy.
I'm sure if you have a big release you want to talk about you can negotiate with khoo or whoever for what you want. I'm also sure money changes hands in one form or another. I'm not sure how that would be a conspiracy. It's kinda the whole business, isn't it? Has this person seen east's layout before? It's not really like the big panels for game company announcements are competing for the same kind of space as table top panels.
Yeah these are my thoughts exactly. It's also highly unlikely that there is some surge in exhibitors that would want panel space. The expo hall map leaked already. It's the same damn people as every other year, with the only notable exception being Oculus.
My panel got accepted—Speaker badge for the win! I'll be talking about tabletop rpgs.
Very cool! What's the name/who else is on it?
It's “Tabletop System Wars”, a Q&A panel where attendees what they want in a game and we panelists suggest systems and mock argue about it. We did the same panel last PAX East. The other panelists are small-press game developers, editors, and enthusiasts like myself. I'm basically the token indie-game hipster.
I fucked up deeply due to not getting tickets until I fucking ebayed them and cannot secure a spot at a hostile or anything. Is there anyone with space at a hotel room or such they'd be willing to share?
I'm indifferent to Q&A being done. It was fun, but only for tradition's sake it seemed. The presenting of the gifts and the repeated questions got really tiresome.
Other things I've noticed that changed: - One less Omegathon round? (3 then finale, I thought it was 4 then finale in the past but could be wrong?) - Show closing at midnight. Always 2AM in the past, and I thought they only changed Prime to midnight b/c it was 4 days.
FFG is actually going to be there, and is running a Netrunner tournament from 11AM to 8pm on Saturday. That's all freakin' day! Odds are if I play in it, I'll just have to forfeit and leave at some point for Enforcing and other things. I bet they'll have elimination rounds also, which are the worst.
Yeah that's quite a long F'-ing tournament. They have the same timeframe listed for an X-Wing tournament, but for that game, I can't see it possibly lasting that long. Even in tournaments up to 20 people, it's typically three rounds of Swiss play, then cut to a top 4 elimination bracket. Each of those matches has a 60min time limit, so that's giving four whole hours just for setup and matchmaking.

Well, at least your elimination rounds aren't complete bullshit.
Schedule might not be final yet. One of our panels - Why no one will game with you - is in there (Friday 1:00pm). We might have a second panel. Details TBD.

I approve of that panel name followed up with "Its really you not them" a discussion when you are the alpha dog in a gaming group aka the air hockey problem.
Downloading now! Crossposting from another thread about bringing tabletop games:
One Night Werewolf and Bang! Dice are small enough to go in my bag every day. I don't want to carry too many big boxes on a six hour bus ride, but I'll take requests:
Through the Ages
Mage Knight
Glory to Rome
Homesteaders
Dungeon Lords
Primordial Soup
Shadow Hunters
Fearsome Floors
Tammany Hall
Cosmic Encounter
Kind of counting on someone else to provide Eclipse, that box is the size of my suitcase. I'm guessing Coldguy will find a way to bring everything he owns. ;P
