Going on an Airplane

I am about to fly across the world again, from Korea back to Texas, then two weeks later back to Korea. I don't like to fly, does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this 30+ hours of flying, and not freak out.

  • Sleep. You might as well catch up on it.
Otherwise, portable gaming systems like the GBA, DS, or PSP are sanity-savers. Music players and books are also good, though if you hit turbulence then it might give you motion sickness.
  • Fill your iPod with 30 hours of podcasts.

what types of planes will you be flying in? I ask because my friend just flew back from Iraq to Germany in a DC9. He was not allowed to do ANYTHING. Not sleep, eat, play, talk, nothing.

I suggest reading. Find a couple of things that you want to read and get to it.

This is an actually good idea. I do this whenever I have to take a long trip.
  • Well those are some good ideas. I am not flying MAC Air, I am flying Commercial Air. I plan on filling my iPod, but what are some other good podcast to listen too.
  • If you like transformers then listen to TFWIRE.com. Anything on the This Week In Tech's network is good. Fast Karate for the Gentelman is teh awesome. Anime World Order is good. The Autoblog podcast is fun. Scientific America or anything on NPR is good as well.

I know you like comic books. Have you listened to Comic Geek Speak? Also, you should listen to the podcasts of everyone we met at SITAcon.

I love that podcast. Any other good comic books podcast?

What is the Fast Karate for the Gentelman?

Indie Spinner Rack is a good comic podcast. I like it because they, of course, only really cover the independent comcis. There are a crapton of other comics podcasts out there, but I hardly listen to any of them. Therefore, I'm not really qualified to say which ones are good and which ones are bad. Why not get one episode of each one on iTunes and listen to them all?
  • Well actually, last time I flew to Florida, I downloaded a bunch of the oldest GN episodes, The episodes I chose included the "Illness and Injury" one, the "Shaving" one, and even the first episode (which, mind you, I stopped halfway through, as I couldn't listen anymore! :P)

Of course, the airline you're flying may not allow any iPods, due to a certain incident in England a few months back...
  • Try Top of the Pods. It's two british guys who do top ten lists. I find them hilarious.

Meh. I've listened to them before. The newer episodes are too annoying with all the FX, and the general product sounds too commercial.
Perhaps you should get a helping of Penn Radio... Mmm?
  • I started listening to the top ten lists but I couldn't get into it.
  • Podcasts: Buzz out Loud, Cranky Geeks, dl.tv, Engadget, Gadgettes (I love Molly Wood).
Personal writing works on a plane too, if you can't do work for work.
    Lots of magazines.
  • I did a post about the podcasts I listen to a while ago its changed a bit since then but I've got links to them all if you are interested. Here it is.
