Creative commons license

edited October 2006 in Video Games
Figured I'd put the question up for those who might know better than I do: What are the limitations of the creative commons license? I've been researching, but a lot seems to still rest in a gray area. There's a shit-ton of CC music out there. I know that most licenses restrict remixing and commercial use. In light of that, could I use music in a non-commercial game I'm trying to code? I'm just playing around with Visual Basic, and I'll put it up for download for free someday, but I suck and have no delusions about being able to sell it.

  • Not all Creative Commons licenses are the same. Different people choose different restrictions for their CC license. You have to look at which license was chosen for the music you want to use. Find some CC music you want to use, then just read their CC license and go to creativecommons.org to see exactly what it means.
  • There's also creativecommons.com.au for the Australians among us. There are probably ones for other countries as well.
