You should probably change your name though. It's like the opposite of welcoming. You might be a nice person, but I already don't respect you as a person, just because your choice of name. That might be my failing, but I'm not entirely convinced.
Not a YDKJ fan?
Glad to know people here like to judge people at first impressions. Maybe this isn't a nice place after all...
edit:fixed youtube link.
As I said, you might be a nice person. As I said, me judging you might be my failing. But also, video game references aside (and nope, never knew it was a reference to that game I've never played) why would you want me to associate everything you say with fascism? Isn't that a bit weird? The joke in the above video is that being associated with fascism is inappropriate, right? It's like you're Godwinning everything single thing you attach you name to, before you even say it.
I don't know Luke, If his name was I_Luv_Hilter or Nazi_R_Kool, I might see your point, but thinking about a Fascist Fish is just absurd and doesn't really seem inappropriate, would you be insulted by Communist Bear?

Honestly this is really fucking dumb and is your own failing if you allow such a trivial thing to color your judgement.
Communist Bear probably not as much as Stalinist Stoat.
Living in Berlin, and tripping over memorials to dead Jews outside my apartment front door, probably puts the joking about Fascism into a different light for me.
But still, even if I am being fucking dumb, isn't it weird to personally choose a name based on a joke about an inappropriate name... and leave off the Fat-Mouthed part but keep the Fascist part? Doesn't it show a slight lack of awareness that the inappropriateness of the original joke name might seem even a little bit, I don't know, inappropriate as a name to give yourself?

For one most systems probably prohibit you from putting in the whole thing. And for another it sounds sorta long and convoluted outside of the joke. I mean, I get where you're coming from, such as if they had Racist Whatever as a name. Kinda sends off a weird vibe and is possibly a little more touchy in the US (especially now). But unless someone puts their avatar as confederate flag or a swastika I think it's silly to put even the slightest bit of judgement into something like that.
Normally I wouldn't really care or bother to voice my opinion on a matter like this, but since one of his first interactions was sorta offputting I decided to express how I feel.
Reminds me I wear a shirt with Socialist/Communist leaders all having a party... (Stalin definitely is on the shirt) The joke of course is it's a "Communist Party". I constantly think I'm going to get punched in the face by some old guy but instead most people just laugh at the joke or wish they thought of it.
I mean some of those guys killed a LOT of people, but the joke is sorta disrespecting them.
So if my religion offends you should I also change it? Or how about my sexual orientation? Or hair color?
I can keep going on, but I feel I would just continue to side track this conversation.
We can take it elsewhere if you would like and I can explain all the reasons I picked the name.
If your religion was primarily associated with Hitler and killing millions of people, you'd probably understand someone questioning why you personally chose it to be included in your name.
If your sexual orientation was named after some really disturbing and harmful practices, you'd probably understand someone questioning why you personally chose it to be included in your name.
Hair color... probably not. But if you chose to walk around with a skinhead and a toothbrush mustache, in a mixed neo-nazi/Hitler reference, you'd probably understand someone questioning your personal styling choices.

This tshirt is fine joke. Just as the original Fascist Fish joke is an okay joke. Nothing wrong with a joke. But if you had Mao, Stalin and Pol Pot in your name? Or tattooed on your body? As in, visible or noticeable in the very first interaction you had with every person you meet? You'd probably understand if someone thought you were being unnecessarily provocative, right?
Normally I wouldn't really care or bother to voice my opinion on a matter like this, but since one of his first interactions was sorta offputting I decided to express how I feel.
Yeah, this was also my first interaction with the Fascist Fish. I find his name offputting. That's the entire point. He might think worse of me, but if he wants me to ever read anything he ever posts and not think he's a cunt, he's setting off on the wrong foot.
Again, how could anyone chose a name like that and think it's appropriate for human discourse, when the source of the name is a joke about inappropriateness?
Yeah. Some advice: change your name so we can interact with you as a human being, not as someone who puts a video game reference above appropriate human interactions. This is something best learned after post number one in your first discussion thread, not after half of the people think you're weird or insensitive or just plain socially inept due to putting the word Fascist in your user name.
In this case, I admitted I might be wrong from the start, but nobody has convinced me otherwise. I still think the name choice is fucking weird, and because three other people don't find it weird still doesn't make me think it is any less weird.
If you MUST reference that joke, wouldn't Fat-Mouthed Fish just generally feel better than Fascist Fish?
It's got nothing to do with moderation. Really. It's nothing but a personal issue. I'm questioning the character of someone who would use term Fascist in his name, for any reason. Other people don't think that's a problem, which is fine. That is all. Bit weird though, right?
If someone had a Nazi Bunny user name I would at the same time not think any weirdness about it. Though I could see why you'd be uncomfortable with Nazi's, All Nazi's are Fascists, but not all Fascists are Nazi's.... Arguably a bunch of governments still running could be considered Fascist. It's a governmental system. It doesn't automatically mean genocide and such. Just like socialism doesn't mean gulag by definition.
It's not that I'm just uncomfortable with it. Me being uncomfortable is a minor issue. What I find weird is that someone thinks this is a good or suitable or appropriate word and concept with which to primarily identify themselves. Someone who just introduces themselves with such a name, without any reason or explanation, is someone who I have doubts about immediately in terms of maturity or social intelligence. What kind of social interactions would one expect after choosing such a name? That everyone will respond positively?
Well he did give an explanation in one sense, it's a joke from YDKJ.
I was PM-ing with him earlier and I'll just say he is aware of the implications from his name, at least from US users as far as I can tell. So take it as you will.
I know he is referencing a joke. He explained that, and I admitted I didn't recognize the joke due to not having played the game. But why pick THAT joke? And once he picked that joke, why drop other words from the name and leave THAT word in place? What steps does someone take to think that is a good idea picking a name to interact with other people in a social environment?
The internet covers the entire world. I live in Berlin. Fascism (and other forms of totalitarian government) don't have a good track record here. I hang out with comedians all the time, and hear jokes about the Holocaust and other atrocities quite often, and I don't have any strong feelings about them one way or another. It's how it fits into the context. In a social situation where you're not quite sure who you might meet, or what people's history might be, it's just good taste not to name yourself something so weirdly inappropriate, unless you've really thought it through and want to attach every personal interaction you have in the future to this single concept.
Luke, I will be blunt with you. First the world does not revolve around you and what you think should be acceptable. Second if you don't want to interact with me that is fine with me, I don't need people who just judge someone by a first glance in my life. Third you mention half the people have a problem, but in my 4 years of using this name, you are the first person to get this upset, especially after I explained the reference. And as far as I can see you are the only one on here who doesn't like it.
To again cover why it was shortened, most places have a character limit.
It's not that the world revolves around me or that I don't want to interact with you, it's that your choice of name makes me think less of you as a person. Really. I'm sorry nobody has brought it up before, because that only makes me think less of the other places on the Internet that have let it go by without comment. Welcome to the place on the Internet where inappropriate stuff like that is commented on. You understand the original joke was that it was an inappropriate name, right? And that might make your name also seem inappropriate by association, right?
People have bought it up, but after the reference they always laugh and move on with their life. Maybe you should try YDKJ, every booby prize is inappropriate as are most of the questions in the game. Kind of like how CAH is always inappropriate.
I think this has gone on long enough. I am done taking this thread off topic and will no longer respond here to anything else you have to say about my name. This is a thread about PAX, a convention not my choice of name. If you want to side bar this to another off topic thread I will follow. But lets please let this thread go back to on topic.
