I made a joke on Twitter about accepting payment for my new album in issues of Backstreets Magazine, the most significant Bruce Springsteen zine. Someone took me up on it, and sent me seven out of print issues from 1978-1984. I knew this would be good, but I didn't think it would be this good!
First commission I ever spiked was a gig from one of the local papers to interview them. The saddest part is, they genuinely believe it - to them, it's not an act, even though the gimmick is obvious.
How much of a cut? If he's not paying you, it sounds fishy...
Generally you pay the sound engineers to master your shit, not the other way around. It doesn't seem fishy unless he's also offering to distribute for you.
And, as in all such things, sign a written contract.

Yeah I was gonna say why would a sound engineer pay you. Depending on the percentage it might be fair. Also I would look at how good they are at their work. You don't want some jackass that does a worse job than you could or half asses it and then takes a cut.
This is more or less a trailer for Andrew Groen's book about EVE (which I had backed on KS). This video is pretty well edited and again it highlights the shit that I find so fascinating about EVE Online as I admire it from afar.
This video is not my thing of the day. What it represents is. This is a Japanese piece of software singing a Finnish song and the person who made the video speaks Spanish. The Internet is amazing.
