  • I am also a fan of FFVIII, it has my favorite plot, characters, music, etc. The junction system really seemed to piss people off just because they had to do something slightly different than before. I do have to agree with one of the major complaints though: you have to use summons as your primary attack method for a major portion of the game unless you work your ass off at the beginning to work around them (the heavy summon use was even addressed in the plot, so they meant for it to be that way).

Anyway, FFX is an excellent one too, and there's a lot of issues in it to think about beyond what the plot goes into. As fanboyish as it may seem, I could write a small book of theories and crap about things that go on in that game.

Also, FFIII DS is wonderful so far, and it makes me want to play that old NES translation for a while to see how things evolved between the two.
  • My problem with the junction system in FFVIII isn't that it was something different. Different is good. My problem is that it was incomprehensible. I played the demo for the PC and at one point it gave me a short tutorial on how to junction. I attempted to repeat the process described in the tutorial many times, and could not. I could not make the appropriate menus appear, and many menu options were grey. It wasn't really the junction system itself, but the menus that make this game nearly unplayable for me. I never tried again after that first attempt. It's just not worth my time.
  • I found the junction system incredibly easy to use. :/ My only complaint is that early on (first few hours of the game) you had to draw assloads of magic to actually have stuff to junction. Sure you didn't HAVE to do it but...how else are beginners going to work out junctioning? If you don't use it from the start you just forget it is there. They should have given players a few full stacks of magic to mess with. :/ Once your GFs learned Refine Magic abilities it was dead easy to just refine stuff from commonly dropped items though. It seems to be that a lot of people never realised that. >_>

Final Fantasy 8: it's the only one I've actually played.

I was more into Phantasy Star when I was growing up, since all I had were Sega systems.

I cried when, in Phantasy Star Online v.1, the butler of the little girl left a message saying he loved her and then died. It was one of the offline missions, but it was so sad.

  • FFVIII, sad to some people but this game was definitely a great moment of my life, the first Final Fantasy i really played properly and one that kept me alive in hospital where i played it for 3 months.

I would guess your demo just didn't allow you to do much, because following the tutorials in the full game i was able to do everything it showed, and got the hang of the system very quickly.

I agree about having to draw the magic, that was a pain in the ass. And yes, refine magic was great!
  • FF III:DS?

EDIT: BTW am I the only one who HASN'T played a FF game?
No I LOST my only FF game! WAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!
  • I like Final Fantasy X the most. The combat was alot of fun which is the only reason why it's at the top of the list for me. Most other aspects of the game was below par for an FF game, but if the game isn't fun, I don't really have any incentive to play it.

On a side note, the poll for this topic seems woefully limited.
  • There is another, complete poll on this with a slightly different name.
  • About FFXII: Dirge of Cerberus, it's actually FFVII.

    Mistakes can happen.
  • I've never actually played a FF game. Ever.

    I am ashamed and depressed.
  • Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, in my opinion, the Best hand held platform. I really don't like the other FF games and end up disappointed when I get my hopes up for FF. although FFCC was pretty good but was better in multiplayer mood and the Circle wasn't large enough. But Moogle Hair cutting was fun ^_^
  • I love Final Fantasy VI with a passion, followed by IV, and V. V is a more recent addition, since I only played it on the GBA.

I also have a soft spot for FFVIII, because I see what it was trying to do, but it has many flaws.
  • I'd say that my favorites are Final Fantasy 4,6, and 7, the storylines and music were leagues above the others in the series.
  • Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was the best. Fuck you all! ^_^
  • I loved Final Fantasy VII and Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced. I played FFTA for over 110 hours and still haven't beaten it 100%!

Honestly.  No VII or Tactics Advanced?  Definitely not cool.

  • My favorite is the original Final Fantasy. It's so fast-paced despite being turn-based. Well, it's fast compared to FFX and Dragon Quest 8. Damn unskippable attack animations FTL.

Two was crap. I have 3, 4, and 5, but I haven't played them yet. I tried a bit of 7, but the control scheme and combat is a bit iffy. 10 was gorgeous . . . but that's it. There was no plot, combat was slow, and the sphere grid system confounds me to this very day. I have 11 somewhere, but it can die in a fire along with the rest of the MMOs I have lying around. I have 12, but I don't plan to play it until I finish 2, 3, 4, and 5. Tactics Advanced was amusing, probably among the better FFs I've played. Crystal Chronicles was a huge miss with me. It looked charming at first, but things quickly devolved into "hack, slash, run, heal, hack, slash . . ."
  • My favorite was FFX. And I really enjoyed FF9. But those aren't options. I haven't played enough of the games on the list to choose one over the other.
  • Am I the only one who loves final fantasy 8?

Hell no your not! Final Fantasy 8 kicked so much ass. But I am kinda bias because that was my first Final Fantasy game but it still kicked ass. Plus the Gunblade is the greatest weapon ever made....Although X had a better battle system. Has anyone played 12 yet?
  • Part 1 and part 7.

None of the above. I love FF X. It's all about the Aeons.

  • I just love FF7. Unfortunately it's the only one I've played, but it was still awsome. When I finally do get around to playing the others I will let you know my updated opinion.
  • None of those are my fave. I like the often underrated FF9. Why, because it went back to basics.
  • None of the above. I love FF X. It's all about the Aeons.
Oh god, they were made of all kinds of suck. And Tidus was a puss. Him and Raiden probably had tea parties after their respective games were over. Auron kicked ass, though.
  • *Gasp choke die* You are the ultimate suck. Auron did kick ass, but so did a lot of others, in their own perspective. *Shakes head* I just don't understand people who don't like them.
  • Wakka and Riku = fail

Thieves never were that good in FF, and Wakka's weapon isn't exactly impressive.
  • Yeah, but everyone has a role to play and without them the story line would not be as good.
  • What story line?! FF has a story? Well, whaddaya know.
  • I haven't played all the Final Fantasy games, but it is hard to choose best from just those that I have played.
I'd say that from the list of FF1,6,7,8,9,10 best three would be 6,7 and 9. But because there are no shared top places in this topic there must be only one and for me that is Final Fantasy VII. My first FF game I got and cleared. 7 has interesting plot and so much to do so you want to play it multiple times. Also I like most of FF 7's mini-games, snowboarding was lots of fun.

Final Fantasy 7 had also some greatest characters of FF games, both at players team and npcs. And one more thing is musics of seven, it has maybe the best Final Fantasy music I know.

To sum it up, plot, characters, stuff to do and music makes Final Fantasy VII my personal favourite FF game.
