  • I didn't say all the characters sucked, just the aeons. Why have one character fighting when my regular party is so much better? Two of my people both hit at least as hard, had roughly the same HP, were faster, and then I had a third for healing/miscellaneous spells. The only time I ever used aeons was against bosses I couldn't beat otherwise. I'd charge up their overdrive, summon them and use it in one shot, then watch as the boss pounded them into the ground before I got another attack off. And Rikku's mix was good.
  • Hmmm... my favorite (out of the 2 I've played) isn't on here, so I'll just say it.

    FF:V - Advance

The only other one I played had girl main characters or something, and it was really weird... then again, I played it when I was like 9, so everything was confusing. And it seemed stupid to me, so I never played another one 'til now, which I just stated. And I really like it, even though I have not played it long at all.
  • I grew up on FF III(japan), when FF VII hit I was awestruck by the story. If any company can make a good enough story, they got my monies.
  • I'm a bit annoyed your poll only includes a few of the most recent games, but meh. Also, someone's probably already said this, but Dirge of Cerberus is actually FF7 and is utter crap... and also a spinoff. I'm not sure if spinoffs should be counted.

Regardless, to answer your question, my favorite Final Fantasy is easily Final Fantasy VI, followed closely by IV, IX, V, and I (about that order). When it comes to spinoffs, Final Fantasy Tactics Advance is teh awesome and I'm really looking forward to FFTA2. I haven't played the original Final Fantasy Tactics, but that's only because I refuse to play a ROM of it and have had terrible luck in actually finding it anywhere. Maybe I should try eBay...

Worst Final Fantasy is II. I don't think I've met anyone who likes FFII. In fact, the only part of the game I found enjoyable was the quote "Guy speak beaver."

Tactics Advance was in my opinion garbage. The REAL first Final Fantasy Tactics is the best one, and the one I grew up with, until I got it for PSP. Go Tactics. Go.

  • My current favorite is FFV. I ONLY say this because it was my first real FF game (I've played 1 before, but I didn't like it at all.) I will be playing IV next, however, so I'll probably like that one more.
I'd rather play the "sucky" ones first, and move on the the "best" ones later. This way, I'll always have something to enjoy.
Granted, my access to these games are limited, due to my aforementioned no-VGgames-for-you-in-this-house ordeal with my parents. At the moment, all I can do is use a GBA emulator on my fairly slow computer.
  • My favorite Final Fantasy game is FF X. Although in the beginning I didn't really like Tidus so much, but the characters grew on me over time. In addition, Auron being a badass helps keep things interesting early on. I also found the world of Spira to be pretty cool and the little sports min-game was interesting.
  • I prefer Final Fantasy Mystic Quest for the SNES. The only real FF game I have played was X and it wasn't that great.

Wow...... you like the black sheep of the FF family. I hated Mystic Quest, it doesn't deserve to bear the name of Final Fantasy.
  • I would vote, but I haven't played much of any of the ones listed. I am always going to be a fan of FF VII, FF IX, and FF Tactics for the Playstation. At the moment I am trying to finish Suikoden IV and V, so these Final Fantasy titles will have to stay on the back burner for a little longer.
  • Sounding like a broken record, I also liked IV, VI, and VII, not in any particular order. I basically played from I all the way to VII, then I stopped because I gave my psOne to my bro.

Should XI really be included in this list? It's an odd ball in that it's the only online version of the game and frankly MMO's have a very different play style than regular RPGs.

I did play XI though *gasp* I just had to, being a fan of FF. As it turned out, the concept of the game was nice but the mechanics of the game was horrible in that you had to pretty much group with others in order to play beyond lvl 20. Waiting for one hour or more to find a group to play really really sucked...but when you did find a party it was pretty fun. Most of the time I had to convince the Japanese people to join my group just to fill the spots. It was funny to see their description saying, "No American players" mostly because they thought we sucked LOL. And I can't blame them because most of us did "suck" heh.
  • So far I have only played I through IV, and they were all the recent remakes at that. Out them all I love IV then III, and I have a deep seated hatred for the level system in II.
  • My favourite is final fantasy X. The sphere grid and the battle system was awesome and don't get me started on blitz ball but i also liked final fantasy VII. I have to say kinda in shame that I haven't yet played final fantasy I, II, III, IV, V, VI I know but i had a mega drive growing up.

I can see how FFII's level system could have worked out all right in theory, but it was just executed so poorly and in all the remakes it doesn't seem like Square wants to make any effort at all to fix it. They just slap on some extra polish and call it good without even addressing the problems.

Speaking of, I have actually obtained a copy of Final Fantasy Tactics and while I really like it (especially the plot, it puts FFTA to shame) I just don't find it as accessible as FFT. Maybe it's just because it's harder. I think that without the mission system thing that FFTA and FFTA2 have it becomes even more apparent that the game requires a good deal of grinding, and since it's a turn-based strategy game it's a huge timesink. I want to progress farther in the game and I have fun with it, but I just don't like spending nearly half-an-hour fighting one battle. It's probably because it's not portable (no, I do not own a PSP), because I'm entirely aware of the hypocrisy. I can't play FFT sitting in bed, while I can play FFTA2 sitting in bed.

Tactics Advance for the GBA is by far the best. I have probably put in at least 300 plus hours, across 4 different games. They took too much out in A2, for it too be better than the first one.

I disagree. As a game, it was laughably easy, requiring no real tactical thought at all.

You know, it really isn't that hard to be coherent and and unsloppy with grammar. The rules quite clearly say to "Be mindful of your grammar and spelling"!

Oh hey, there are other people who liked Final Fantasy VIII, I am not alone in the world! Squall was a terrible main character though.
  • ...But he was cute.
  • "....Whatever."

Cute or not, he came off as very hollow (both in mannerisms and emotional expressions). I don't know if the rest of you share similar beliefs, but that's just me.

  • Laguna was also way cuter than Squall.

    Laguna? Wer ist das Laguna?
  • The original Final Fantasy Tactics. ("Lay down your swords or die in obscurity!") Best by roughly an 100 point margin.
Also awesome, Final Fantasy VI. Gogo ftw.

Well, currently I'm playing FFTA2 (and I like it about the same as FFTA, I'm still putting in ridiculous amounts of hours into it...both have shit awful stories) and I just got FFT for the PSP. I'll be starting up FFT once I'm done with Chrono Trigger, though.

And yeah, FFTA and FFTA2 are laughably easy. I'm on "hard mode" in FFTA2 and I've just been doing missions as they come, and I'm retardedly overleveled and the only enjoyment I'm getting out of the game now is building a sweet party.

Gotta at least have a Chocobo Knight which is the coolest new class in FFTA2 imo, even though I absolutely despsise the FFTA games. I'll be ready for raging hornets that will come after me.

  • Eh, well I just took the dudes given to me at the start, and once people started trying to join my clan, my original party was already 10+ levels higher than anyone who wanted to join, so I never bothered changing out my original party...which is limited to 3 humans, a viera, a nu mou, and a bangaa. I'd like a gria or a moogle in there, but like I said, it's not worth my time to level up another character.
