What do I get my geek son for the holidays?

  • I really wasn't trying to get on your case, Salamon, it's just that I've been dealing with this whilst doing some Christmas shopping for certain people. I also know that when I buy a single DVD I play the hell out of it, and when I buy a stack of them I shove them in a drawer. At some point, less is more. Mrs. Jason is getting three gifts for Christmas, and they are the ones she really wants. Plus me, wrapped in just a bow.

So... the three gifts are what she really wants and you have to put a bow on yourself so she'll (maybe) want you?

  • Airsoft. What could possibly go wrong?
  • A basic electronics educational kit, or else a book on basic electronics and a box full of resistors, capacitors, breadboards, diodes, a soldering iron, etc...

I had great fun playing with mine as a child. Pity I've lost most all of my soldering ability...

    Alas, it is so.
  • I understand Jason, I do...
  • You can buy him Guitar Hero 2
A great soccer game is Winning Eleven anyone is way better than FIFA.
You can also get him awesome old figurines of old school anime like Macross. Kids have to be school on the good stuff, I find mines on the local comic/manga/ geek store for 20 bucks a Valkyre with the cool Skull in the middle. Maybe a nice packet with that figurine (which is, like the size of a control remote)and the complete Macross series (that is something hard to download in the net). I like the movie better though.
Also if your kid is a star wars fan you might want to get a Light saber FX replica. I recommend the blue one (the one Luke an Anakin used) since his color is way brighter than the red ones.
Sorry for being Bias but Giant Robo is a great OVA and is very cheap, like 15 bucks or so.
