People are going to buy something because it's new and shiny and pretty. Call my cynical, but I don't think people are going to care about whether they get it or not. They're just going to buy it cus it's the next big thing.
There are people who buy things just to show off how they have newer and better stuff than others. However, looking at history, this doesn't mean much in terms of something being a success. Betamax didn't beat VHS despite superior video quality. The Game Gear or Lynx didn't beat the Game Boy. The Atari Jaguar didn't beat the SNES. The PowerPC didn't beat the x86. Having technological superiority doesn't have much to do with commercial success.
Blu-Ray may have beaten HD-DVD, but I think that much like the Atari Jaguar couldn't put out the SNES or Genesis, Blu-Ray will not stand up to old school DVD. Years down the road, Internet distribution will destroy them both.
As strange as it sounds, being that they were pretty much the same, I always thought Bluray was superior to HD-DVD in terms of quality. There was just something about the picture quality that was a tab bit better on Bluray. So in this case, the superior format in terms of quality did win. This is just my opinion of course.
PS - anyone want to buy my Xbox 360 HD-DVD player? Just kidding (sort of)!
...I am made of so much win because... I don't watch TV! HAHA. SUCKERS.
I might get a TV later on to play games on, but when I move out? No cable. Why bother? I rather play on the 'nets. So thus, unless consoles start needing certain TVs, I'm good.
You can get various converter boxes that will let you plug your consoles into a PC monitor so you could invest the same money in getting a bigger monitor.

I just picked up the Bavarian Firedrill expansion for the Illuminati card game and they included an "Otaku" group.
How new is that expansion?
August 2007 is the copyright date.
They also added artifacts to the game. Artifacts count as a group for victory conditions but they do not go in the power structure. They are considered to be adjacent to the Illuminati group for attacks. Yes, artifacts give players totally unfair advantages.
Examples:
Ark of the Covenant: Draw one extra card each turn. Blivit: Once per turn, you may spend your Illuminati action to discard all uncontrolled groups and draw an equal number of cards. Any special cards you draw become yours. The groups that you draw become the new uncontrolled area. Perpetual Motion Machine: On your turn, you may discard any card (group or special) and get an extra action. Discarded groups and any they controlled go to the uncontrolled area.
I'm going to have to guess that there is errata on the PMP stating you can only discard groups you control.
They've basically decided that the only customer they want is the crazy Otaku collector, and fuck everybody else. Well, that's what they get.
Does anyone want to put money down on who Bandai Visual is going to blame for this when it all goes belly up?
Obviously they're going to blame the people who failed to understand the American market sufficiently, right? I mean, I'm sure we can count on them to analyze their failure clearly and without any predisposition, right? That's the sort of thing Bandai Visual does, right?
I don't think they will say they didn't understand the American market. That would put them in some way at fault. Oh, right, sarcasm. Does anyone think that maybe they aren't the ones in control of this deal?

If you can't exert a sufficient amount of control over a business deal to make it profitable and reasonable, there is an answer. Just don't do the deal in the first place!
