Unfortunately for Geraci and Field, Federal Judge Mark Kearney ruled that by filming cops “without any challenge or criticism,” the pair weren’t engaged in “expressive conduct.” Therefore, their actions were not protected under the First Amendment. The judge went on to suggest that if the plaintiffs had spoken or yelled some “anti-police expletive” while filming the cops, they would have been put into a protective category denied to them by their silence.
If I ever end up filming cops, I'm going to yell "Kony 2012" repeatedly.
The Baltimore Police Department was sued by six African-American men, who say they were wrongly arrested and beaten in 2015. The suit was filed against dozens of police officers, as well as the state of Maryland, and former police chief Anthony Batts – who have declined to comment on the matter.
I do not understand how the mass issuing of police body cameras was not accompanied by a law like "Yo, if there's an altercation and your body cam was turned off/fell off/"came loose" you are guilty of tampering with evidence, full stop, fuck you."
Though granted, if you're holed up in such a way that you can cover the only entrance and there's no way to get a shot on you, plus you're unwilling to negotiate or surrender, I guess you can expect a package from Drone Claus.
Thought occurred to me finding out about this on twitter and the usual rhetoric against Black Lives Matter spewed out...when was the last time we had a peaceful protest accomplish anything in America?
Seriously, from the nonstop obsession over Religion, Speech, and The Press...what happened to the other two? No assembly/protest works because they can be ignored or forgotten. And petitions never change anything big and mostly used as a punchline these days. Is there anything that can be done to give them any sort of credence these days? Or do they have to get to a level so massive (perhaps on a million-person scale) that they cannot be ignored?

This may sound like a cop-out, but I blame the media. 24/7 coverage and global stories means people can willfully ignore peaceful assemblies and protests because they are told and/or believe that there is a more important story happening RIGHT FUCKING NOW in Sheepfuckingstan because some asshole decided he'd bomb a kindergarten.
Hey! Japan has more black people than Maine...probably, but there are only about three in the video of the demo (is that a word you can use in English here?).
Holy shit. Making a Murderer is something that deeply unsettled me. Of course it is always to be questioned how biased the presentation is in one way or another, but Brendan being convicted on basically nothing but lies and having been browbeat by the police was disgusting. It was a textbook example of the system railroading an unfortunate soul.

Get pulled over and shot 4 times.

A country which deems Kinder Surprise more dangerous than guns.

Completely inexcusable. $20 says no one goes to jail or gets fired.
First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.
Sometimes it just feels like news has fists and just comes home angry and beats me.
