I must say, in the first episodes, the sound sucked. But as the podcast goes on, the sound improves but there is a lot of lip smacking. Other than that, I would listen to this if I had time to kill, but with the new Harry Potter book out, even Geeknights is gonna be put on the back burner.
I can agree with your first statement, Sail, but not your second. I can understand that some episodes were lacking in professionalism, but I think we've had more in depth conversations on the show than most podcasts have in a life time. That's not saying much, considering all the thousands out there, and that most aren't bearable enough to even listen to. Remember, it's not just me in there talking. Listen to the episode on "Laptops > Desktops." That's probably the best so far, and I've gotten close to 100 downloads on that one.
To speak technically on what OurTimeIsNow was saying about the sound quality, and how it sounded like crap, which I fully agree with, was because of a bad sound card. Little did I realize that I could record from two audio sources at once on a mac, so the other computer I was recording to is no longer needed and will be thrown to the birds. Even when the card didn't have a source plugged in, it would still receive this erratic buzz, which is the sound I've learned to hate the most as a podcaster. But the real reason the sound was so bad, was because I had to do noise removal in audacity because of that hum, and that resulted in an even worse sound quality. Now, we don't have to worry about that, because all I need is one computer and one external and one internal sound card. One's for my voice going to Talkshoe and other is for recording me and the people from Talkshoe. The reason I do that is because I don't want to send Talkshoe back to Talkshoe, that'd be an echo. So there's a little bit on how it all works.
I'd really like this thread to go back to how the show can improve or what's good that should keep getting better. I agree with OldGeekJohn, when I say this whole thing has GONE TO POT!
I think that everyone is forgetting the words of one Bill Hicks when it comes to marijuana:
You can do anything on marijuana you can do off of it, you just realize it's not worth the fucking effort
Anyway, Glimp, your podcast is okay; production quality is fine (cut down that buzzing, though) and you've got a good voice but you need some more content, maybe if you did just one episode a week you could focus more and have better content.
Just to clear things up the buzz or hum is completely gone, and has been for a long time. And it really wasn't there in the first place because it was edited out, and replaced with an awful sound that made my voice seem like it was under water. That doesn't bode well either for the show, so I got rid of that too, so now it's just right. I'd say it might be better audio quality than some professional podcasts. Really. I have $3k of equipment for it in here, so why can't it. If you really do think it needs better sound, which is always good, because everyone has a different amount of frequencies they can pick up with their ear, then tell me exactly what you hear and why it's bad.
And I guess if people keep asking for content, then maybe I should ask exactly what kind they'd like. A story comes up, I and the rest of the people on TalkShoe discuss it and analyze. How is that not much different from what happens on Twit? Give me precise aspects of a regular show that I need.

Okay, I just started listening to your most recent episode and the audio quality is fine now.
Here's the thing: I don't like TWIT-style shows, if you want to do a news part, fine but you tend to ramble on those stories. I guess I would suggest focusing a bit more and keeping it towards the tech stuff (you seem to know that the best). Also, I don't like the concept of bringing random people on to your show, a feedback or question segment would be fine and you should have co-hosts to play off of but I would suggest getting a regular group of people who you know and trust to be insightful and have good audio of their computers.
Don't take it the wrong way, your show is okay, but it could be better.
Yes! I want a TWiT type show. Even though you guys like Geeknights, which is different but still awesome, there are more people that like Twit. I'm sorry, but it's true. Rym and Scott are an acquired taste, like a fine wine. Twit: Laporte, Lindsay, Scott, Merlin, etc... is like a coors light. Basically, I personally prefer a Bob & Tom kind of tech show.
But Pirons, I'll take that as some good advice. It's really important that you have a very select group of people that come on frequently, and I haven't got to that yet. There are some regulars, but it feels like the bests episodes were when random people came on.
I will post to this thread one last time. I listened to a few of the episodes, and without being overly critical, I will offer some feedback beyond "Go set up your own forums." Here we go...
- The smacking the smacking the smacking. It makes your show unlistenable, unlistenable, unlistenable
- Research your topics. In particular Art Bell. The first part of your show was wiki-tastic. That is not a compliment. I used to PAY in order to listen to C2C on streamlink. He lost me when he was all broken up when Ramona died, only to come home with a child bride. I freaking had to put my dog to sleep and showed more long term remorse that Art, and allegedly she died in his arms from an asthma attack.
- You do have a good voice. You need an in studio foil. Listening to a single person, or even a single person with someone commenting via VoIP is annoying at the very best.
- You are creating content, and that makes your rule more than the rest of us NOT creating content. I cannot take that away from you.
That being said, I will be moving on from The Glimp. Geeknights does it better, more consistently, and with higher production values. Oh...and I don't have to listen to stupidity about how pot smoking is the best thing since aspirin.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! So stop smaking, better research or content, higher quality VoIP (Skype, rather than TalkShoe), and a more regular group of co-hosts. Alright, got it.

Pretty much, I'd also advise having the co-hosts actually in the room with you if at all possible due to both audio quality issues and because it's easier to play off of them. Also, focus on the tech or beef up your knowledge of the other stuff. There's already plenty of tech podcasts and though I like your opinions I don't really need them because there's a lot of other people talking about that. I think the movie episode is a good idea but it could be presented better. And if you have to cut the show down to just one or two episodes a week in order to have a better show, that's fine.

You've basically got no content.
