  • I'm trying to develop a new podcast with some online buddies, and I'm thinking we give ourselves a name that's somewhat TV like, since we talk a lot about TV. I've suggested ones like "No Signal" or "Under Syndication" or "Hazardous Broadcast", but they want to go with "The Podcast Zone" Which I feel is a tad too...lame. Any thoughts?
Ya, that's pretty lame. What about white noise? You know, this stuff image
  • "The Podcast Zone" is a terrible name. I can tell they're trying to go for a spoof on "The Twilight Zone", but it doesn't read that way at all.
  • Re: Microsoft PC vs Xbox.
I'm disappointed they didn't do games more suited to console play first. I'd love got get some racing games on with a bigger crowd. RPGs like Phantasy star would work too.

    XD Stoker schooling Meyer
Erm, Mr Stoker? You have Dracula going out into the sun in your books. More than once, and he spends a substantial amount of time in the sun each time. And as a personal point, sir, I would stop at attacking her Disco Vampires, and try attacking the fact that the content of her books is morally abhorrent to anyone who isn't a hardcore anti-feminist and mormon, also, it must be said that they are poorly written to the point of being Mind-and-soul-destroying.

I doubt many people know about how bad that book actually is. Your a man of words, could you post a review of it on that blog of yours?

Oh, and the next comment will be comment 10,000.

Oh, my thing is this list of Alien Swarm console commands. Including ones to put the fast reload bar underneath the marine and make it first person.

I doubt most of the people who Say things like "Hurr durr, ur vampires sparkle, they're not real vampires like dracula" have ever read Bram Stoker's Dracula, either. I'll consider it, though. It might be tricky, parts of those books are too horrific to describe, also, it's already been done.

    Re: Microsoft PC vs Xbox.
Arguments aside, the only reason I'm calling bullshit on this article is thus - It's essentially some guy saying "Hey, yo dudes, a Friend of a friend, who is, like, totally a bro and a reliable source, he said that Microsoft said that PC gamers rule and Console gamers suck, like, Amirite brosef?" with absolutely nothing other than his word on it.

Yeah, so, since when has this community accepted "Oh, friend of a friend told me" as an acceptable level of evidence for fucking anything? Because if that's suddenly the case, a friend of a friend told me I have an enormous penis. Truly immense. And It plays an exellent piano and slap-bass.

Humans are inclined to believe that which confirms their opinions, nothing new really.
  • Re: Microsoft PC vs Xbox. I'm disappointed they didn't do games more suited to console play first.
not to be all hyperbolic on your ass, but REALLY? Every freaking PC shooter has been stupidly slowed down and dumb-ed down for consoles in the last 10 years since probably Halo. Most shooters these days are developed Console first and ported over only a few studios (like Valve) still do things like Left 4 Dead but even then they slowed the hell down on Team fortress 2 for consoles I suppose. (much to Rym's hatred)
  • Humans are inclined to believe that which confirms their opinions, nothing new really.
True, true. I suppose it was a bit silly expecting much more.

I wonder - if that story came out, but with the PC and console reversed, would they have been as fast to go "NO! THIS IS SOME BULLSHIT HERE! ROW ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWAH" as they were to go "WOO! I WAS RIGHT, AND AM THEREFORE SUPERIOR! BREED WITH ME, LADIES!"
  • re: PC vs XBox - I'd be willing to wager that this was at least some part of why the Shadowrun FPS for the PC/360 tanked so hard (aside from the other obvious reasons). I can't be bothered to dig it up right now but I recall a few years back PC Gamer and their sister mag Official XBox Magazine did a throwdown to test the theory. They loaded up Halo on eight Vista boxes, gave the OXM staff their PC-connected 360 controllers and a few days to get used to playing it while looking at a PC screen instead of their TVs, and then threw them up against the PCG staff who were using the standard mouse/keyboard control scheme. The PCG staff spanked the OXM staff so bad it wasn't even funny - essentially at their own game! The sad fact of the matter is you're never going to have the control with a pair of thumbsticks that you would get with the mouse and WASD, simply due to the limitations that are inherent in the gamepad itself. Now if someone invents a controller for the 360 that can whip the screen around as quickly as a mouse can, then we'll have an accurate, comparable challenge, but until then the console people are going to be gimped and the console FPS fanboys are going to be sadly lacking in the skills it takes to be competitive at an FPS on anything other than their beloved consoles.
  • Science is cool! Posting this not just because of the instruction of what chemicals are needed to make your own glowstick liquid, but because of the really great science and explanation of what is happening and why, especially towards the end of the vid. Learning rules!

Guillermo del Toro will be directing a live action Haunted Mansion movie and it won't be a comedy and will not have any relation to the other Haunted Mansion movie.

Oh, and the Hatbox Ghost will have a pivotal role, which is making a lot of Haunted Mansion fans (myself included) very happy.

Picked up Skate 3 for pretty cheap today. Had fun with the first two and it's a bit of a timewaster but a lot of fun. The best part of the series are the intro videos to each game and I don't think that many people from this forum have seen them. They feature the pro skaters that are in the game in certain roles. So here are the first two:

And here's the one of the third, also with a cameo of former Pro Skater and star of My Name Is Earl, Jason Lee. He's also playing the part of Coach Frank, who basically functions as your tutorial in the game. Used to like Lee a lot more when he was in Jason Smith movies and not involved in the Church of Scientology though.

  • I just had a long talk with a local woman who's spent the last 30 years in Australia, helping disadvantaged (including many aboriginal) children get medical screenings, food, and school uniforms. She was very interesting. Any of our Aussie friends ever been to Naroomba in New South Wales? She says from her desk she can watch humpback whales frolicking in the ocean. I need that kind of a fucking desk.

Yeah, it's pretty great down there. I liked it a lot. Good work she does, too, the Aboriginal community can be quite terrible, to the point where we have dry areas and towns, simply because the alcohol problems got too bad. Around there, you also have to buy certain amounts of petrol and you have to provide ID and either a special form of card, or a car rego, so that they know you own a car - because soon as the area went dry, people just turned to huffing petrol. When that happened, they had to bad spray cans, because people just shifted to huffing paint. Along with the pricks running all the sly grogging, the general lack of education, the crime to support various habits...It's entire towns that are worse than most of the ghettos in large cities in the states.

Random fact - I'm considered a full adult in Aboriginal Society, in the terminology, I've got my paints.
