Over time, the benefit of the number of new features and updates that you'd be missing out on by not updating would eventually outweigh this functionality for many people. It's worked before.
To be serious for a second, the number of people using this is going to be pretty minimal unless Android starts trying to tout it as a big feature (As Palm did.). Also, Palm's method of faking the phone ID was what Apple took offence to, the method being used here is similar to the one Blackberrys use already, which is to just read the playlists and copy the files.
