  • I've only ever eaten Shake Shack at the original Shake Shack. I thought it was a step up from Five Guys. Now it is a chain restaurant, I'm not sure how it holds up. I should have tried it out when I was in Dubai.
  • I used to think Shake Shack was pretty good, but as I've expanded the upper horizons, the lower tiers compressed together. The burgers are often overdone on the outside, underdone on the inside... At least Five Guys are boring but consistent.
  • The upper horizons of burgers don't expand very far. But the lower horizons expand extensively down. There are more distinct layers of shit than gold.
  • Chorizo meat on a pizza is the west coast best kept secret.

I would definitely put Five Guys above Wendy's. Wendy's is pretty decent, but it's still not that great. Five Guys is a bit more up there for shitty fast food burgers.

I don't differentiate between Wendy's burgers and McDonalds/Burger King. They're all within a median range of not-worth-it and not different enough to warrant further classification.

    Burger Quality Grades:

    0: White Castle
    1: McDonalds/Wendy's/Burger King
    2: Five Guys/Elevation/Shake Shack/CheeburgerCheeburger
3: Actually good places (e.g., Burger Garage)
    4: Outstanding places

I can agree with that. I tend to choose Wendy's above all the other Tier 1 if I'm going to get something. I think Burger King is better than McDonalds even though I would probably prefer McDonalds over BK. Wendy's I view as a little cleaner in their presentation so I'd probably put that before the other two. But given any slight chance I would go for anything > 1. Tier 2 is the new Tier 1 since I'm not in college or high school anymore. And even in college I would generally go for this local burger place that was probably a Tier 2 burger joint.

  • I would qualify Five Guys burger as more of a Denny's/IHOP burger. It's bigger than you expect, the toppings are decent, but it's an unremarkable burger all the same. Price is about the same too.
  • But Denny's has other food and other options. Five Guys has fucking nothing else to offer.

    More french fries.

It has Heart Disease to offer, HEART DISEASE.
  • I've always found the Five Guys has shitty buns that can't handle the amount of burger and about a quarter of it ends up on my hand/arm, especially if you get more than like 3 toppings.
  • The price isn't just the dollar cost, dude. In'N'out burgers are as crappy as they are cheap. It's like saying, "For the price, the crackwhore on the corner blows up any other paid sex. She can't stand up to high-class escorts, of course, but for $20, you'll find nothing better".
"Yeah, but do you REALLY want that?"

If in some mystical Neverworld Five Guys and In'N'Out were the same price, I'd still pick In'N'Out. Dat thin patty technology...
  • Hardee's/Carl's Jr seems a bit of a step up from Mcdonald's or Burger King, but I also feel like I'm twice as likely to have a heart attack after eating there.
  • Wow, so much burger chain discussion...
Maybe we should make a separate thread for that?
  • We already do...
  • Off-topic is a way of life.

Hot dogs and grilled cheese are also options!

  • The weird thing is I've gone to Five Guys before because a couple of my vegetarian friends wanted to go.
  • Five guys does earn extra points for having malt vinegar readily available for fries.
  • My favorite burger joint is The Habit. I like their tri-tip.
  • Oooh, There's one of those down the street from me and their burgers are actually pretty dang good.
  • They're ok, IMHO. They have pretty good fries, though.
  • I don't consider Five Guys fast food, it's quick service. Fast food needs a drive-thru.
  • What tall think about smash burger, bobbys best burger, and Schnippers?

Cuz I'll take those over shake shake every time (unless it's shake shack in the park with friends, cuz outdoor seating and ridiculous lines is an attraction of its own)
