Is it just going to pop up in my list, or should I keep signing on and off every 10 minutes?
No reason to be checking like that. I'm sure every gaming site, this forum, the steam forums, etc. will all explode the minute it becomes available. If you are pre-loaded and logged into Steam, and you have your ear on the net, you will not miss any significant amount of playtime.
Ahh... Glad I didn't stay up all night.
Granted, had we still been at RIT, you can bet we'd have had an all-night release party at Colony, realized the game didn't work yet, and skipped class on Monday anyway.
After stumbling on the Unofficial TF2 website, it seems its not being released until this evening (EST.)
Good. Nobody here better waste their time sitting around reloading when you could be doing something. Go beat Metroid or Bioshock instead, so that you have more time to play TF2 later.
Apparently there were problems with the Linux dedicated server. here is a history of updates from Shacknews
Update: Speaking in a Shacknews group chat room on The Steam Community, Valve employee Erik Johnson has revealed that the maddeningly unreleased Team Fortress 2 beta is almost here. Valve is having difficulties with the dedicated Linux server software, causing a delay.
Update 2: Again in the Shacknews chatroom on The Steam Community, Valve Employee PatrickM has given a further update regarding the status of the Team Fortress 2 beta. About ten minutes ago, he stated, "20 mins folks, so contents [sic] being pushed out to the servers."
Update 3: Content files for the Team Fortress 2 beta are currently being unlocked via Steam. If your Steam client is not decrypting the files, restart your client.
Update 4: Users attempting to launch the ostensibly released Team Fortress 2 beta, including Shacnknews editors, are finding the game client refusing to launch. Attempting to launch the game simply returns a Steam dialogue box reading, "Preparing to launch Team Fortress 2..."
Update 5: It works! The Team Fortress 2 beta is now available for play.
I'm REALLY glad I didn't try and stay up for when it was unlocked... Turns out i was getting out of bed to go to work when it was released
So... anyone setting up a dedicated server? apparently all servers are 100% full all the time. Guess it will calm down once more people get servers up and running.

Time is something we definitely don't have... -_-
I'm stuck playing this semi-good game, Nexuiz, on the Mac.
