It's slightly macabre but funny -- there was a ripple through my newsroom of 20-something guys shouting, "What's going to happen to The Dark Knight Returns?!" I was laughing at one intern here who was having a Chris Crocker breakdown about it.

Looks like Heath finally figured out how to quit Jake Gyllenhaal...

Ahaha, my first thoughts were, "Isn't that Batman's movie finished..?" I'm sure it is.
That movie is full of bad luck so far. A camera guy died while filming a stunt driving scene and they couldn't shoot a scene that was supposed to be in the Hong Kong harbor because of the viruses and diseases in it...
First thing I thought. I couldn't care less about Hollywood and I think it's disgusting a single death gets international press when he's a fucking actor, but I still feel for his newborn.
Also, congrats to whoever wins the first Oscar, because you get to dedicate it to him while 35 other fuckers do the same thing after. Gonna be a weak year for the Oscars and I will not watch them.
"What's going to happen to The Dark Knight Returns?!"
Sadly, that was my first thought too.
Guilty as well. Damn.
We're such geeks. I thought this too.
Me too. Even though I'm a little nervous about how it'll turn out. I can't help thinking they might have done better. Now it's gonna be this big weird thing. If he's bad, no one will want to say it. If he's good, there's gonna be a new, huge Heath following.
Dying young like this is pretty good for an entertainer's rep. I won't be surprised at all if, in a few years, he'll be remembered like James Dean or Marilyn Monroe, whether he deserves it or not. If he's good as the Joker, he's got the James Dean thing in the bag.
Dark Night is in post-production... so his death shouldn't affect anything, but I read some rumors that Ledger was supposed to reprise his role as the Joker after Dark Night... so depending how the movie ends... they'll either get another actor or scrap the Joker for another movie.
But anyways... it's a bummer he died.. he was really up-and-coming with the roles he has been playing lately.
Mr. Period - "..." is often misused and abused. You are guilty of both.
I was never a fan of him in particular, but he was good in what I've seen of his work. It's a shame that he's died and that his talent can no longer be applied to anything in the future.
The actor's personal strife was accompanied by professional anxiety. He said in a November interview that "Dark Knight" and "I'm Not There" took a toll.
"Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night," Ledger told The New York Times. "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going." He said he took two Ambien pills, which only worked for an hour.
I think dying in the bed of an Olsen twin from a Drug overdose while sleeping is theoppositeof going out with a bang.
No one ever seems to get what I mean when I say that. A quick question, what was his last role? If you get the answer to that question, you will get what I meant.

He played the Joker, we know. The joke you made just wasn't funny.
I am just so disgusted that someone with a CHILD thought that playing with drugs was fun. Screw the movies, this guy (whether intentionally or not) killed himself.
This is particularly inexcusable as he had all the resources in the world to get help for any addiction he had. How is his ex going to explain this to their child? "Daddy loved drugs and reckless behavior more than he loved you!" Let's face it, it is the case.

But from what I read, it seemed more like he mixed up the pills or simply took too many sleeping pills. People do stupid shit, and if what the Yahoo article reported was true (""Last week I probably slept an average of two hours a night," Ledger told The New York Times. "I couldn't stop thinking. My body was exhausted, and my mind was still going." He said he took two Ambien pills, which only worked for an hour.") then he might've gotten desperate, and tried to take too many.
It happens... It might've just been an accidental prescribed drug overdose, rather than him purposefully making himself overdose with something like crack.
OMG!!1! An actor died?!?!? Who gives a shit? Honestly, people make me sick, worrying about Britney and Lindsey and Paris and such. What the hell folks? They are individuals, not gods. They are people, and I'm using the term loosely here, who believe that they are better than the rest of us simply because they can sing(poorly), or act(poorly), or perform(very poorly) in a pornographic home video. The only reason these people are "special" is the fact that the idiotic herd that is the future of this country worship them so. Fuck these spoiled Hollywood bitches. They aren't worth the breathe that people waste when regurgitating the same old shit rumors about them.
I was in the campus newspaper office and Heath Ledger's death--or rather, the news reports of his death--were one of the day's running gags. Everybody mentioned it to everybody else who already knew.
The other running gag was the idea of a Polar Bear Plunge at the Special Olympics. You figure that one out.
The Dark Knight is already finished filming, it is going to come out soon and a big movie like that has a TON of post production work that needs to be done. Unfortunately they may need to get a voice impersonator to dub some lines or something if they decide they want to change anything. Also Ledger was halfway through filming another film anyway, and it does look like that film will be significantly damaged by his passing.
Wasn't the new film he was working on being directed by Terry Gilliam? Damn, that man just has no luck with his productions anymore. Anyone else remember Lost in La Mancha?
Anyway, I agree with what others have said about Heath Ledger's death not being as special as the media will make it out to be, but come on, wallybman, some of what you said is a bit too harsh. Sure, it shouldn't be so big a deal nation/worldwide, but by the same token, it's not so meaningless that you should automatically say "fuck that guy! he's worthless!" just because he's an actor/celebrity. A death is a death, and it's sad for the people who were close to him and who will miss him. And from what I can tell, he was at least a few steps above the Britneys and Parises and Brads and Toms and what have you in terms of respectability.
I don't view celebrities as real people, kind of like how I eat extra meat. Why? To balance out the whack jobs. He was alive, now he's dead. Good job at that whole not-taking-too-many-pills thing, Heath. And now there are (semi-) famous people (Eric-fucking-Roberts?) telling us how great he was. People die all the time. I'm sure a lot of people that were better human beings than Heath Ledger was died that same day. For that reason, I tend to not give two shits when someone who happens to have some money and happens to be famous kicks the bucket.
Also, the best thing to ever come out of Nirvana was the Foo Fighters, and the best thing to ever come out of Kurt Cobain's mouth was a smoking shotgun. How's THAT for being harsh?

"Mommy I can't feel my wheels!"
But I digress.
