  • He's just officially stated he will resign. David Paterson will take his spot and become the first black governor of New York.
W00t, at least Paterson appears to be awesome.

Just a little throw in that I find funny: "spitz" (as an adjective) means "pointed" in german. It can also be used as a slang term similar to "horny". To finish with some latin, Nomen est Omen.

  • I was wondering what Kilarney had to say about Spitzer.
Normally I wouldn't care too much. The difference with Spitzer is that he was elected on a platform of ending corruption and restoring ethics. Having sex with a prostitute isn't necessarily corrupt, but because it is illegal it is unethical. If he did use state resources to facilitate the encounter(s), then that is corrupt.

Because he was elected on a mandate to rid government of corruption and to restore ethics - he should resign. If he didn't run on those issues, then I wouldn't be asking for his resignation.

I agree. This is also why most Republicans caught having sex-capades end up resigning. It's not because of the sex but because of the platform they run on.

This is pretty sad, especially seeing as the Guv was gonna "go after" predatory lenders, but what's more important, protecting the people or reporting on a sex scandal?

How about not being a hypocrite? The sex isn't the problem as far as I see it; it's that Spitzer campaigned on a platform of integrity and reform, while secretly engaging in the same activities he sought to stop.

The thing about hypocrites is that they are either saying or doing something which I agree with.

If a hypocrite governor would go after the predatory lenders, I would be happy having the hypocrite in office. I'm far more concerned with the predatory lenders right now. The hypocrisy can wait.

I've been reading about some predatory lenders, like payday loans and such, lately. I still can't figure out why all these people just don't go to the bank.

Sometimes people get into a bind and can't get a regular loan. Those payday loan places don't require security and sometimes don't even check credit. That can be very, very attractive to someone who has an immediate, desperate need for, say $500.00 to fix her car. When a person is in such a bind, it's hard to think very clearly about how the outrageous interest is gonna end up making her pay $900.00 (or more) for the use of that initial $500.00.

Why are people going to check cashing stores instead of to the bank?
  • I think the main reason he would resign is not because of his activities, but by how he paid for those activities. Did he use tax-payer's money to hire hookers? Did he use tax-payer money for the hooker's rooms, food, traveling, etc? I think the reason why he was being under investigation was because he was writing off a lot of "business" expense. Anyways, was anything like that mentioned?

Cheque cashing stores will give you an advance on future paycheques with interest.

Few, if any, banks will give you a loan for as little as $500.00. Even if they did, they would check your credit and/or require a security interest in some piece of collateral. If you have bad credit, an apartment that you rent, and a car that you don't own outright, there's not much going on at the bank for you.
  • Those check cashing stores often cater to illegals. They speak the language and many illegals don't want to go to a real bank for fear of being deported.

Those places are bad. So is H&R Block with their "Rapid Refund" deal. It's nothing but a high interest short term loan. If you E-file you get your money within a week.
  • It's no secret that Wall St. hated Spitzer. Low and behold, the case gets blown open because a bank just "happened" to notice some irregularities in his account and tipped off the feds. Coincidence? Hmm...

That's why everyone loves Swiss bank accounts.

Yeah, that's what I thought a payday loan was.
  • I got a feeling Joe Bruno had a hand in this for all the "Trooper Gate" other BS those two have gone on about. Side note: So what happens to the super delegate vote Spitzer had? I heard that Patterson is going to get his and is still planning on going for Hillary. But will his acting LT. Gov (Joe Bruno ^_^) get his vote? Or will it be lost to some party BS?

    Fuck Joe Bruno.

Just had to throw that out there.

The latest I read was that Hillary loses a superdelegate. Spitzer's superdelegate status goes away, and is not assumed by his successor.

That's one reason why Hillary wasn't exactly calling for his resignation.

I read that what's happening is that both Spitzer and the Lt. Gov both were superdeligates by virtue of their office, so the Lt. Gov is getting Spitzer's superdelegate vote, and the next guy in line, who's a republican, gets the Lt. Gov's superdelegate vote.
