Are you fucking kidding me? Lameboy runs GB/GBC games fucking perfectly. The aspect ratio isn't fucked either since the GB screen was smaller than the DS's.
The Genesis/Megadrive emulator is awesome, too. I forget the name for it, though. But it works really, really well.
Same with nesDS. That works like a fucking charm. I think Punch Out is the only game I've thrown at it that it hasn't been able to play.
You're so negative, Scott....
Except for these, though, the DS can't handle much; if you mess with SNEmulDS settings enough, though, you can get some good results.
I have a PSP that I use almost exclusively for emulation that has been hacked to the teeth, and it can run almost anything perfectly. PSP is the way to go for all emulation if you don't have a laptop.
Well, for me at least, the emulators that the DS can run are fine by me. The only systems it's lacking, IMO, are N64 and PS1, but yeah, the DS probably can't even handle those...
Yeah, I saw that a few days ago. It's pretty sad, but maybe it'll compel Nintendo to make a cart with all 3 on it...doubt it, but people would freak out over it.

I can finally comment on this, cause I just recently hacked my PSP...The PSP actually isn't a whole lot better than the DS, emulation wise. As with the DS, it's perfect for GB/GBC, NES, and Genesis. The GBA emulator is good, but the DS can do that, too, but just with a bit more work. On the plus side, the SNES emulator is really good. It messes up a few games, though, still. The N64 emulator is shit, too.
I have published some actually well written Earthbound Fanfiction, which has recieved a little bit of attention. Here are the stories! A lot of people seem to like it a lot, but I haven't done a chapter in a while because I've got writer's block and I might work on some this month. The story is basically an arduous task of retelling the Mother series. It's a bit different than most though, because I largely made the first part up in order to tie up some loose storyline stuff in Mother 1.
When the MOTHER 3 patch launched, there was a translated intereview with Shigesato Itoi on the site that I read immediately, and reread it again the other day. It's a fascinating interview, and while I've always had great respect for Itoi I only find myself admiring him more after reading it again. You should probably not read it until you've finished MOTHER 3, but if you have finished the game and haven't read this interview, I highly suggest you do.
Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow members of the forums, today is a very special and legendary day in the world of video games. It was over 20 years ago this very day that Shigesato Itoi and Nintendo released Mother 1 (Earthbound Zero) in Japan. Because of this game's massive success, the world was able to experience and enjoy the release of Mother 2 (Earthbound) and Mother 3 which both are legendary in their own rights. Whether you have played it or not, this game has changed video games in a profound way, but unfortunately not many people are aware of the series' existence (save for their knowledge of Ness but that is it). There is more heart and more creativity in this one franchise than there are in the vast majority of video game series in the world. Many like it for it's wacky and corny humor, some like it for it's absurd settings, and some like it for it's hidden, deep undertones.
Let me tell you a tale of why I feel this day should be cherished in gamers' minds, the story of how I found this game. Now as most people have, I learned about Ness in Super Smash Bros. and sorta liked him, but I wondered what game he came from. I found he came from a little-known game on the SNES known as Earthbound, but I was outta luck since I sold my SNES (my biggest regret to date). One day I learned about emulation and got a ROM of Earthbound. I played and was taken aback by it's very subversive and corny humor, but I immediately took a liking to it. It wasn't till I got to the near end of the game did I realize "this....game.....is....the greatest thing I've ever played". I still stand by that claim today as no game has ever surpassed it in my mind. I later went on to play the others and found them also particularly amazing. I'm a Earthbound fan, through and through. Much like how Rym loves Kaboom! with a passion, I have a similar love for this game with a fiery passion.
The most shocking thing though is that Nintendo turns a blind eye to this game simply because it failed for ridiculously stupid reasons I don't care to elaborate on as you can find articles that will tell you why. The point that I'm trying to make is that this game should be played by any gamer with any shred of love for video games at all. I encourage each and every one of you forumites who read this post to get a rom and beat it at least once in your lifetime to understand what I'm talking about and hopefully the other games too. As for you veterans out there, play through the games once more just to honor this game and it's wonderful qualities that entails it.
I realize I'm gushing about this game non-stop, but I really can't help it as I love it that much. If you think it's kinda obsessive and scary, then I think you should think again since we (as in Earthbound fans with I myself included) are probably the hardiest and most resilient fans out there as Nintendo shoots us down each and every time something important in the history of the Mother series happens, but we always rise from the ashes. I mean we unearthed a rare, fully translated in english, Mother 1 prototype that was thought lost. We have made a wonderful and faithful translation of Mother 3 which I contest is one of the most professional fan-translations out there.
In closing, Starmen.net (the premier Earthbound fansite) made this really great video celebrating 20 years of Mother. However, if you are not familiar with the Mother series, it won't make a lick of sense to you but that's okay.
Your words are wonderful and true, Yupa. The Mother series is just completely different from all expectations. I don't understand why, but it strikes a chord in my heart that makes me realize, "Wow, this is a good game." Shigesato Itoi is a brilliant, brilliant man with a fantastic sense of humor and understanding of the world. I am proud to be a Mother fan, I am proud to cosplay Ness, and I am prepared for anything Nintendo throws at us. There's nothing they can do to this community that will hurt us any more than we already have been hurt.
Well I recently am playing through Mother 3 for the first time in a long time since I never actually finished the game because I wanted to do so with the guide and I thought I'd lost it (such was not the case since I recently found it). I am up to the beginning of Chapter 7 and have a long way to go. As a side note I'd like to say that something unexpected happened when I played through. I was totally and absolutely shocked at the way Chapter 6 was presented and how quickly it passed by. I literally started crying all over and I didn't stop for a while because the emotional force was that strong and I'll never forget about it...ever. This probably makes no sense to those who didn't play the game, but it's really your loss since you didn't play this game and I assume you didn't play Earthbound either (or at least didn't beat it).
Lately all my posts have just only been about me gushing like "Oh this is such a great" (that it is) or "Remember this part"? I think it's about time I put this thread back into gear and actually have a discussion. So....what are peoples' theories as to why Mother 3 never made it stateside. My take is one extremely important and plot related element in it. I won't spoil what they are to those who haven't played it but I'll just say a few words and hopefully those who have played Mother 3 will understand what I'm talking about: pink hair. There is no way that would pass here in America as it has WAYYYYYYY too much Japanese humor in it for anyone (except people privy to that sort of thing or people who can accept weird humor like that) to understand.
Yeah, that moment...Uhh...Mermaids...Yeah... I think there are many others, though. Namely the fact that it wouldn't sell amazingly. A lot of Final Fantasy fans/other JRPG fans are very choosy about their RPG's, and Nintendo is no longer showing support for GBA. It came out in Japan three years ago, it would've taken at least a year for it to be localized given Nintendo's generally slow time at releasing stuff. By 2007, Nintendo wasn't going to market a GBA game. It just wasn't happening, unfortunately.
I don't think you really need to dance around them that much, considering that you meet them during the first chapter of the game. Besides, knowing that they exist and actually interacting with them in the game are two entirely different things.
An in-depth video of someone who has one of the only four prototypes of the very first game in the Earthbound/Mother series translated into English which was never released on the NES. If you've played the Earthbound Zero rom on an emulator, this cartridge is where that came from.
I've wanted to play this game for a looong time, but never enough to want to sit at my computer and play it on an emulator. I got an R4 recently and decided to load it on there, only to find that emulation for this game is just as bad as it apparently was in 2008 when Scott was complaining about it. The boss fights are totally unplayable due to layering unless you mess with the settings, and even then, messing with the settings makes other fights in the game unplayable. UGH.

I know you can get cheap pads. Gamestop has some decent Logitech ones for $10.
I'll admit it I cried manly tears after the end of Chapter 1.
However, some of that was due to the fact that the Final Boss of Chapter 1 is a tough son-of-a-bitch.

Probably this video can better explain why this game is so great. Beware, it is over 20 minutes long but it's worth it.

As a side note, the way Lucas gains his PSI powers was very, very strange.
