  • From the same article. If you are trying to show some sort of equivalence between Obama and Palin here you need to keep in mind that Palin was born into this church while Obama chose his church. Palin also left the church after she became governor while Obama did not leave his church until it became politically expedient to do so.
What does Obama have anything to do with it? I wasn't trying to show any relation between him and Palin. I'm pointing out that Palin is a complete religious nutjob.

  • Intrade, the prediction market firm that successfully forecasted Biden as Obama's second, is giving Palin a 15 percent chance to drop off the McCain ticket before the election.
  • John McCain has long been a foe of Congressional earmarks, while Sarah Palin has made a political career of feeding off them -- including soliciting funding for the Bridge to Nowhere in 2006, a project she mocked in her acceptance speech last week in Dayton.

From the article: This year she submitted to Congress a list of Alaska projects worth $197.8 million, including $2 million to research crab productivity in the Bering Sea and $7.4 million to improve runway lighting at eight Alaska airports. A spokesman said she cut the original list of 54 projects to 31.
  • Sarah Palin, lover of censorship:

"Shortly after becoming mayor, former city officials and Wasilla residents said, Ms. Palin approached the town librarian about the possibility of banning some books, though she never followed through and it was unclear which books or passages were in question.

Ann Kilkenny, a Democrat who said she attended every City Council meeting in Ms. Palin’s first year in office, said Ms. Palin brought up the idea of banning some books at one meeting. “They were somehow morally or socially objectionable to her,” Ms. Kilkenny said.

The librarian, Mary Ellen Emmons, pledged to “resist all efforts at censorship,” Ms. Kilkenny recalled. Ms. Palin fired Ms. Emmons shortly after taking office but changed course after residents made a strong show of support. Ms. Emmons, who left her job and Wasilla a couple of years later, declined to comment for this article."

I guess US Weekly has cast their vote?

There was also a photo of Bristol Palin's future husband Levi with his sister in the New York Daily News today. The picture was of them with some of their guns and the caption portrayed them as criminals "more like Bonnie and Clyde"!!!

Nice to see unbiased media in action.

What does the media have to do with the issues? Nothing. So stop bitching.

Bitching about the media is the only strategy they have.

HMTKsteve, that's stolen directly from the drudgereport, plus I never realized US weekly was a political rag? Have you already forgotten the tons of negative media attention Obama got during the primary? The difference is, now Obama is Vetted, he survived those attacks.. If your going to be in high office you have to not say crazy ass things. (or take part in meetings with groups that want to declare Alaska it's own state).

The headline should be: McCain takes his toys home, says he doesn't want to play anymore.

    Plagiarism?

The Palin Bounce . . . for Obama.

More about Palin and her Pastors
Do you really want to go there? At best you're going to fight that one to a draw. Besides, the Dem presidential candidate has the pastor issues, whereas the VP candidate on the Republican side has them.

Sure, McCain had a pastor issue, but that blew over with little to no repercussions.

Besides, weren't you ambivilent at best when this issue applied to Obama?

Palin's got enough skeletons in her closet that this argument isn't needed.

Here's the difference: Palin is in a church whose pastors have been telling her things like "we're in the end times" and "anyone who votes for Kerry is going to hell". She's been in this church since childhood. She has demonstrated that these fundamentalist whacko lines of thought have seeped into her brain when she said that Iraq is "part of God's plan". She has proven that she's willing to pursue secular policy based upon her church's teachings when she vetoed funding for an institution designed to help teen mothers. She supports teaching creationism in schools. She further proved her willingness to implement her church's teachings when she decided she could ban books from the public library.

On the other hand, Obama has never shown any sign of pursuing secular policy based upon the teachings of his church.
Palin's got enough skeletons in her closet that this argument isn't needed.
Are you at the point now where you'll actually admit this? I thought you were very happy with her and thought her appointment was "savvy".

I said it had the potential of being savy. I also said that I'd wait to hear more about her prior to coming to any conclusions.

The time has come, though, where I've come to a conclusion. Palin aint the home-run that McCain was hoping for.

  • This dance move is an oldie but a goody, and it's sweeping the Red States like never before. It's called "the Sidestep."

Notice how Tucker flows seamlessly into "the Self-Delusion." He should be on Dancing With the 'Tards.
  • I don't know what this says, but I scrolled right past Jason's name and thought Joe wrote that post.
But yeah, someone on /newnew/ basically said Carlson's a crazy jackass conservative that nobody listens too.
  • It means Joe is fucking awesome.

Not a day goes by without another corpse bubbling up to the surface of the lake that is Sarah Palin. Now here's a video of her addressing the Alaskan Independence Party for their 2006 convention:

Well, the Alaskan Independence Party primary goal is the secession from the union. It also calls for home schooling. I also find it hilarious that their logo is mainly a polar bear. Palin strongly opposes the inclusion of polar bears to the list of endangered species.

  • Pat Robertson on CNN: Evangelicals didn't really like McCain, but they love Palin. She's the "most exciting Republican candidate since Ronald Reagan."
  • I thought they were excited about Bush... It's fun to watch republicans throw him under a bus.

A collection of Palin stuff. A lot of it is stuff you may have seen before, but there is a good video of her saying that it doesn't matter what happens in secular government if the "people of Alaska’s heart isn’t right with God." There's another video of her saying that the U.S. Army in Iraq is "on a task that is from God."

It really bugs me that people can be so batshit insane in America. Is the rest of the world as insane as we are?

There are batshit people everywhere, but there are definitely places where people are less batshit overall than they are here. A European commented on Palin saying "creationists here are laughed off the stage".

What country do you think is the least insane? Sweden? Switzerland? Norway?

Which do I think is the least insane? I would guess that someplace like Iceland or Sealand might be the winner. It's pretty difficult to figure that sort of thing out empirically.

  • Carole often talks about Iceland and sometimes suggests moving there for retirement. I'm kind of skeptical because of the difficult langauge and the weird seafood.

Apparently, when you look at her record as a whole, she's not as right-wing as people here claim.

  • Apparently, when you look at her record as a whole, she's not as right-wingas people here claim.
She tried to ban "offensive" books from the library and sought to fire the librarian who would not assist her. She backs abstinence-only education. She is anti-abortion to the extreme. She supports the teaching of creationism in public schools.

I'd say she's extremely right-wing, exemplifying the very worst of it.

Video of John Hagee talking about stay-at-home dads. Apparently, stay-at-home dads are going to hell. Who knew?

Seriously, why are there so many crazy people in America?

She pisses me off saying "we made a choice about having the baby" in both her case and her daughter, however the stance she takes on abortion would not allow a choice.....
