Then he looks like a frog.
No. But his lip dips down in the center. Heart mouth. Look at pictures.

  • Like, you want me to draw a goatee on Scott?
No. I was just merely pointing out what I thought. I think Scrym looks fine. It's just he kinda reminded me of another person.
  • No. I was just merely pointing out what I thought.
Not you, Ro. The picture that Jain7th edited up. I know Stubble Scott is cannon.

Trust me, I had Rym pose for me.
Yeah but having my fingertips beneath my thumb is painful, does he overcome pain to look awesome? And it comes closer to that pose.

    Space were trousers should be.

It gives it a sense of perspective and makes it look more dynamic.
The whole design has that awesome flat vector look and these rectangles shoot through it.

    It's a joke.

  • Ooooh, wait, now I see what you mean about cut off. Ah! Yeah, it's not cut off, that was an intentional 90 degree angle. But it might be a mistake not to change if if it looks that way. Hmm. Now I can see it.
  • This is awesome gomi! great work!
I love giving helpful critique but I'm in crunch right now at work. I can do it when I get home if you'd like (or if the forum didn't already solve the problems). I'd like to do a mark up for ya and help with the mic/hand covering. Looks so awesome ^.^
  • Scrym should get the flag in real life and take it to cons.
  • Yeah but having my fingertips beneath my thumb is painful, does he overcome pain to look awesome? And it comes closer to that pose.
So, take Adam's hand on the right, rotate it mentally toward you, toward the way the thumb is facing and bend the fingers just a little. That was the way Rym had his hand. It doesn't hurt.

That's... not out of the realm of possibility...

A t-shirt that glorifies the style of propaganda used by a government that murdered tens of millions of people and deprived the basic human rights of millions more?

Count me out. I appreciate the talent that went into the design, but I haven't checked my conscience at the door.

Since when did artistic style represent political ideals?

It's the idea of turning the images of that era into some kind of "urban cool" that is really disturbing to me. I don't give a crap what you wear. I personally choose not to wear clothing that borrows from something so evil.

Feel free to do so, but I'm not sure that this is a perfectly rational conclusion to make. It's sort of along the lines of "I don't use bathhouses because they were used to gas Jews in the Holocaust." I mean, you might have a point if they included the Sickle and Hammer, but I feel that the overall artistic style is too broad to attach to a political faction/ideal.

  • I think the style is enough for an association to be made, and the use of the Russian word for "hell" is sufficient confirmation.
The implications are a different issue.
  • Good, but I've got to ask; why no 4th star? There are 3 with perfect room for 1 more. I'm not saying you should add one, just wondering.

Sorry, I let my tendency for overcriticizing good work run free. It looks awesome and I'll get the T-shirt as soon as I can.

An art style itself can do nothing wrong. You shouldn't let evil ruin stuff for you. Think of it rather as a parody and not as an endorsement.
  • Do you listen to Wagner, Kilarney? Appreciate the art for what it is, say what you want about the artist.
  • I know it's a style thing, which is awesome, but I've never seen Rym and Scott faces so smooth in my life.
  • Sorry, I let my tendency for overcriticizing good work run free.
No, I really appreciate it, actually. Some things I just didn't understand. It's Okay (^_^) Happy Emi!

Yeah at some point my English ran away from me.

There is nothing intrinsically evil about any artistic style. Just because Hitler really like swastikas, and Hitler was evil, doesn't mean swastikas are evil. I've actually always been upset that there is such a stigma attached to the swastika. It's a cool graphic that can now never be used unless in reference to Nazis. The swastika on its own is a really neat shape, but if it is ever used it is automatically making a statement that is either pro or anti nazi. I shudder to think what art would look like today if the Nazis had chosen the square, triangle, or circle as their shape of choice.

Hammers and sickles, regardless of the fact that Soviet Russia was evil, are pretty cool looking. The red and yellow are colors that go very nicely together. Amongst us young people, who were only six years old when the Berlin wall came down, we can look at soviet propaganda and appreciate it for its artistic style separate from our study of its dark history. We are not ignoring the dark history, we know it well. We are just able to appreciate awesome art regardless of the darkness of its origins.

I mean, with your kind of thinking, no artistic style is good. I can associate evil with pretty much any style you can come up with. Should we not do an anime style because of the evils committed by Japan in WW2 and against China? Should we not do an ancient Chinese kung-fu style because of their current violations of human rights? Should we not do a cool medieval style because of the evils of serfdom and feudalism in the middle ages? Should we not do a Roman style because they killed Jesus? If we did an Uncle Sam style, would you not buy it because of the countless evils performed by the US over the centuries? Should we not do a cool radioactive sciency style because of The Manhattan Project?

    Seriously.

So Russian automatically equals evil now? What year is this? Moreover, no one idea owns an aesthetic. That is like saying you will never watch Aime because the Japanese once bombed Pearl Harbor or buy white sheets because the Klan used to wear them.
  • Holy crap, Emily.

    Seriously.

    Holy crap.

The style is clearly Soviet. Russian text serves to confirm the association, since Russian was the language of the Soviet Union.
However, I said the implications were a different issue. And no, I don't think the style is in itself "evil", even though it is directly associated with evil...

Besides, if I said Russian = evil, that would make me evil. I was born in Russia.

You can pretty much associate anything directly with evil.

  • Angel puppies?
Angel puppies are the result of people eating puppies, causing the puppies to ascend to puppy heaven before their time.
  • Angel puppies?
All Dogs Go to Heaven was pretty evil IMHO
