edited July 2008 in GeekNights
Tonight on GeekNights we eventually get around to talking about the iPhone 3g. In the news eBay is making lots of trouble, and Netflix is on the Xbox 360.

  • Oh! I just realized what program he's using for the turret! It's called Roborealm. It was free last time I checked.

"if they don't have Live Gold, what's the point?"
Oh, guys...I love your radical statements...
    Xbox 960, 460...wtf. I hope you're joking. 360, 720, 1080...etc.

  • My suspicion is that the 360 was a way of covering up the fact that the 360 is only the second generation.

Exactly. Really, what do the run of the mill retards that go into Gamestops think would be better (before hearing about either console from their buddies), Ps3 or Xbox 2?

But I don't see the next Xbox being xbox 4. My guess is xbox 720...

Naa, it'll be the "Xbox Evolution" who's name will be subsequently changed to the "Xboo".

  • And now for the oldest joke in the Book:

The next Microsoft Console will be called XBox 3: Electric Boogaloo.

That joke only works with sequels. -_-
  • The best sentry are the Turrets from Portal.

    "I don't blame you."
  • Speaking about NS2, it was recently announced that it will no longer be developed using the Source Engine, but rather an in-house developed engine. They also just hired a bunch of new developers due to an increase in funding. Hopefully it will start bearing fruit.

I went to their site and it appears they release a semi-frequent development podcast.

  • Scott, can you please tell me what application you use to convert videos into an iPhone friendly format?

I use a combination of AnyDVD and Handbrake to rip DVDs to iPhone video format. I still have not found a way to convert an xvid anime fansub into an iPhone compatible video.
  • WinFFmaybe.
Maybe. I'm sure mencoder can do it. I just have to write a little Python gui scripty thing to take care of it.

That's what I use to convert my fan subs for the iPod.

    I'll try it.
  • Max's suggestion works alright, but I somehow need to find out how to make settings on .mkv or .ogm files to choose language tracks and subtitles before converting.

Yeah, it also needs to be able to change fonts and such for those subtitles.
  • WinFF worked really well on an xvid with hard subs. I'll try it later on an mkv with soft subs.
  • Videora is a POS full of crappy advertisements, and it has no features that make it better than WinFF.

Videora has advertisements now? I guess I haven't really upgraded versions for about a year. I also haven't converted anything to mp4 since I got a laptop.

Also, Videora has some serious audio-sync issues and if I recall it had no way of manually adjusting the framerate.

I doubt you'll get it to work.

If you know mplayer/mencoder commands you can insert them in the box at the bottom; you should be able to work out the command to select subtitles.
  • I have to revive this thread to inform you of something very important. The newest version of handbrake can convert almost anything into iPhone video format, including downloaded fansubs with hard or soft subtitles. It also does it with better quality than before. I transcoded an Episode of Galaxy Express 999, and there was no visible loss in quality when I moved it from xvid to iPhone m4v. I also did a DVD, and it was as good as can be. Handbrake + AnyDVD is all you need nowadays for all of your transcoding and ripping needs.

It's fucking awesome, isn't it? If you want to set them to a quality you can watch on your TV go into Apple>Legacy>iPod/iPhone Legacy.

For windows users, DVD43 is a free alternative to AnyDVD.
