Wow. Mrs. MacRoss and I agree! I don't like either. Cilantro was all the rage a couple of years ago. I'm glad to see the hype starting to die down.
Speaking of rages, what's with chipotle? Does everything now have to claim that it is chipotle flavor? I like chipotle flavor, but the overexposure is starting to annoy me. Anytime Taco Bell features a flavor, you know it's jumped the shark.
And what's with chipotle? Doeseverythingnow have to claim that it is chipotle flavor? I like chipotle flavor, but it's definitely a fad.
I enjoy chipotle, but I do agree it's a bit much and from all the things that claim to be chipotle, they all taste different. I do like the chipotle tabasaco sauce. It's good to put on ground beef when cooking it.

I read an article a ways back that said there was a genetic difference, but if I search now I can't find any reference to it. However, one thing is for sure. To some people cilantro tastes like soap. To other people it doesn't. A genetic difference makes sense, but I was unable to find anything that pointed to a specific gene.
I like strawberry pocky the most, but it's also got a bunch of trans fat, so I don't eat it anymore. Same with koalas.
As for other stuff...I've eaten my fair range of Japanese candy, cause at cons I always try to make an effort to buy something new...and nothing's ever seemed spectacular. I'd rather just stick to mike and ikes and shit like that.
I guess Ramune drinks count as a Japanese snack, even though they are liquid. I love the taste - it's very light and refreshing compared to American sodas. Luckily the Japanese restaurant a few towns over sells them, so I can have one as a treat whenever I bother to drive over there.
Ramune! I love thee dear Ramune! I can't find a place anywhere in the city that has Ramune. The anime shop I used to frequent and Suncoast have shut down long ago.
What about the Gundam candy, I heard that stuff was alright? I probably might go to Connecticon this weekend and pick it up if I can find it (which is a possibility).

Got any FYE's near you? Most, if not all, FYE stores near me have Ramune, in addition to other Japanese snacks. Then again, I'm not sure how widespread the FYE chain is.

The Gundam candy? I wasn't aware there was a specific Gundam candy. I've seen Gundam used to market existing candies, like Gundam Pocky.

Speaking of Pocky, I've never had it and I wanna try it along with a Gundam candy, what flavor should I start off? The reason why I'm asking is 'cause I don't wanna make a mistake and buy a kind of Pocky that doesn't taste good for me.

You've NEVER had pocky, somebody save this man from his torturous life.

Ain't that good, IMO.
And actually, I can think of some stuff now that I like: Almond pocky, dessert pocky (glorified normal pocky, I think), tomato pretz (fucking amazing), and those stupid chocolate cheeseburger things...
Pocky is overrated. People go crazy about it because it's one of the few Japanese snacks we can get. They eat it more for the image than anything else. I like Pocky, but it's no better than a multitude of snacks you can find here in the States. If you are getting it, my favorite flavor is chocolate-coconut.
Step into a Japanese 7-11 or AM/PM and you will find tons of snacks that are better than Pocky. The problem is that most of them don't travel as well or compactly as Pocky. That's why I think Pocky has made such inroads here.

Oh yeah, THE tomato pretz, I scab that stuff from my friends all the time, because it's awesome, but i still prefer the pockys and the prawn chips, are prawn chips even Japanese? i thought the were Chinese.
I thought djfooboo said this. I enjoy shrimp chips on occasion. I remember always frying them up with my mother when I was young. It was cool seeing them puff up and curl in the oil.
I don't eat a lot of Japanese snacks, because all of the "asian supermarkets" (read: chinese grocery stores) here sell only very popular snacks, like Pocky and Pandas. When I can, I like to pick up a box of mochi from the Japanese gifts store, or get some fresh from the market (but the market is about an hour away, so I don't go often).
I'd really like to try some different Japanese snacks. Are there any Japanese markets in Rochester, or would I have to go farther south? (or north, to Canada?)
Has anyone tried Toppo? They're kinda like a reverse Pocky with to cookie bit on the outside. I prefer them to pocky. I have located a dealer with Pocky and Koala Snacks in Leeds. PM me and I'll give you the hook up [read: get off my ass and find the link].
I've actually tried dolphin meat. It's surprisingly good. I would love if that caught on here.
Are you going to be a problem?
How's that? I think every eating custom should be respected. The Japanese don't outwardly promote this custom because it's frowned upon by other close-minded nations. I had it, and I thought it was good. Although, I wouldn't eat dolphin meat regularly because it's supposedly high in mercury. It would be great in sushi. I don't see the big deal they're just fish.
