Body Wash & Soaps

  • I would take baths, if it weren't for the fact that most bath tubs these days are too small for me.
  • I used to use the T-Gel back in the day also. No more.
  • I really never have been able to grasp how you use a bar of soap.
You basically have two options when it comes to using a bar of soap. You either wet the soap down and then rub it all over yourself or you get yourself a washcloth, wet it down, rub the soap on it, then use the washcloth to scrub yourself clean. Shower gel wasn't really an option when I was growing up, nor was a shower (at least not until the parents remodeled their circa-1920 house), so I got pretty used to taking baths with a bar of Zest soap on a regular basis.
This assumes that you are a male who has urinated. If you have one of those self-flushing urinals, you can leave the bathroom having only touched yourself
Only if there is a self-opening door on the bathroom or the way in is one of those S-shaped hallways. Otherwise you're likely going to be touching a door that every other guy who didn't wash his hands has touched in order to get out. My take on the whole "wash your hands after you're done" thing basically boils down to this: I know where my hands were before I flushed the urinal. Even if I flush it with my elbow, I still know where the last guy's hands were. I'm damn sure going to wash my hands after that. Also, when you're getting ready to leave the bathroom, keep your paper towel in your hand. You can use it to open the door without having to touch the knob or handle.
(I also often brush my teeth in the shower. Is that weird?)
Not really. My girlfriend does it all the time. That's not much different than a guy shaving while in the shower.
Hey, does anyone here take baths? Do boys in America only take showers? I'd really like a Japanese style ofuro, especially in the winter.
Given that a shower is a lot easier and quicker, I'm pretty much showers-only kind of guy. I only take a bath if I need the soak time, like for sore muscles or something. Now if I had a Japanese-style bath, I'd be all about the baths.

That is, by far, the best way of washing yourself with a bar of soap. I've tried both of your methods, and the puff is the easiest and uses the least amount of soap to get you all lathered up.

I wouldn't really call it weird, but I'd call it a hassle. My toothbrush and toothpaste (along with my razor and shaving cream) are in the cabinet, so it would be inconvenient to go grab them mid shower, or even before my shower. I mean, if I'm gonna pull my brush out before I shower, why not just use the sink?
As for leaving your toothbrush in the shower, that's also kinda useless, assuming you shower once a day and brush twice (or more) per day. Shaving on the other hand is usually once per day, so you could just leave it in there with no problems.

  • My toothbrush and toothpaste are sitting in a little cup on the side of the sink. I don't have a medicine cabinet in the bathroom, just a linen closet where I keep the towels, new soaps, and the medicine box. I like my medicine/first aid box. It says "Kyuukyuubako" on it in kanji and has a cartoon picture of a happy nurse. I bought it at the Container Store in NY, which, if you don't know, it a huge store for...yup, containers and little organize-y bits. OCD gomi loves it. So anyway, before I shower, if I am going to brush my teeth, I put toothpaste on, put it in my mouth, and jump into the shower while brushing. I can also reach the sink from the tub, so I can get the brush midway through the shower if I want to. No hassle for me.

I don't see why you just don't use the sink. It's not like you can really accomplish anything in the shower while brushing your teeth that you can't if you're out of the shower.
  • I can be standing naked in nice warm water? Accomplishing cleaning of the body and cleaning of the mouth at the same time? Also, I can wash my mouth out, just by opening it. I go *ptuu* right in the drain when I am done with toothpaste and then open my mouth and let the shower cleanse it. Also, in the winter I am cold, so standing in the shower is all like "ahhh."
