Best PC FPS In Your Opinion

  • A game in the middle would need to use limited movement and slow projectiles to gimp both of them into the middle ground.
    You mean TF2?
    More than that.
I think what you are looking for is Shadowrun.
  • The thing is that, the keyboard and mouse weren't specially suited to the FPS. The FPS was specially suited and refined to the mouse and keyboard over years and years. It's kind of interesting to wonder what games would come from different kinds of interfaces, e.g, what kind of game would work well if tablets were widespread.
  • The idea is to configure some with a console like setup to play against those with a normal setup.
How I love my epic sentence Skype mood message. So basically what you are trying to say, but not actually saying clearly, completely or understandably, is that you just take a random PC FPS, install it on a few hundred PCs at a LAN party, and configure half of those PCs with a controller, and the other half with a normal mouse-keyboard combo. Sigh, you are missing the point. That way you are not testing console FPSing against PC FPSing, no, you are just comparing PC FPSing against fucked up PC FPSing. Sure, it's a nice start, and you might get a usable result, but it's not console FPSing without the console and the game set up for console FPSing.

um... OK. I suppose I could've been more clear, but I'm fairly certain you can at least get the Source Engine games to perform like the Xbox versions. Most games with joystick inputs just use those on the console versions, I don't see why they would go out of their way to have a different script for it. granted you might not get the exact same experience, but the console versions have settings too, so its pretty analogous I think. I suppose you could first test this by seeing if random Xbox player can tell the difference between PC and Xbox setups with the system out of view.
  • Deus Ex - FPSRPGing at its finest.
  • Deus Ex 2 - Not so.
  • The problem with that is that console FPSs are about moving and PC FPSs are about aiming.
I'd say PC gaming is about aiming and moving, as I think there is more dexterity in both maneuverability and aiming in PC games over console shooters. Not saying console shooters are bad, just that the mouse and keyboard is a far superior first person shooter interface than a joypad.

Unfortunately you're always going to have to gimp PC gamers if you want to bridge the gap between console and PC shoot em' ups and gamers just aren't into games where they are handicapped by default.
  • Operation Flashpoint. Hardcore.

I've never bothered arguing consoles vs. PCs when it comes to FPS games. Both are fun and both take skill, so as long as the two never mix I don't give a fuck.

  • Operation Flashpoint.
Was that the one you couldn't finish until it was patched?

ArmA is a hardcore mother fucker as well.
  • Oh, how could I forget? Red Orchestra is my favorite multiplayer FPS, because It's absolutely epic if you've got a large, organized team. It's not exactly a "traditional" FPS, though. It's all about careful aiming, squad tactics, and moving the battle line forward while maintaining cover.

Wow what a coincidence that Steam has Red Orchestra for $5 right now... I was thinking of getting it.

I admit I am no expert on the subject, but my favorite FPS was BioShock. I like how there was so much more than "run around blowing away bad guys." I wish it had the AI like F.E.A.R though.

Too hardcore. It was unplayable to anyone who's not previously familiar with Operation Flashpoint.
