I always get sad when I see a dead cat/dog on the road.

I don't know why, but the first time I read this I saw "keyboard" rather than "backyard."

    No problem. What'd I do?
  • Oh now it's just epic fail dude. You called out Florida and the article is about Georgia.
  • If the Legislature does not enact an appropriation bill on Monday, June 14, 2010, the State will lose the authority to continue paying most of its bills and must be prepared to shut down non-essential State services on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 until appropriation authority is restored.

Governor Paterson has proposed budget extender bills that would ensure the continued orderly operation of State government. The State has an obligation to provide essential services to its residents, to protect their health, safety and welfare. That obligation will remain our first priority however events unfold.

If an appropriation bill is not enacted by Monday, we must shut down state services in an orderly fashion beginning on Tuesday. Therefore, State commissioners and agency heads have been directed to determine each agency’s essential activities and the employees essential to providing them. A manager or supervisor will be notifying you whether your position has been determined to be essential or non-essential for purposes of continuing to provide services during any shutdown. Each determination is being made on a case-by-case basis, will not be based on your title alone, and can vary from location to location, and agency to agency.

If an appropriation bill is not enacted by Monday, and if you have been notified that your position is non-essential for purposes of the shutdown of State services, you should complete any shift that you began before midnight, Monday, June 14, and you are not to report to work for any shift that begins on or after 12:01 a.m., Tuesday, June 15, until the shutdown ends or you receive a direct order to report from a manager or supervisor, via letter, email, the Department’s website, phone call or other means of direct communication. You must check the public media and the Department’s website each day, http://www.agmkt.state.ny.us, to find out whether a shutdown of State services will start on Tuesday, and whether a shutdown will continue each day after that.

    Thank you for your cooperation
You guessed correctly: food safety is non-essential.

There's no give-a-damn left to bust.
  • If that shutdown actually goes into effect for more than 48 hours, I will be incredibly surprised. Most of the time these people dick around and squabble until the last minute, and then when it comes down to crunch time they make an agreement. I seriously doubt the state will let things shut down for very long.

I know. That's not the part that bothers me. What bothers me is that we've come to this point at all. Our legislators are willing to shut down the government before they're willing to come to a consensus on a budget.
  • Our legislators are willing to shut down the government before they're willing to come to a consensus on a budget.
It's because the senators who are facing re-election in November are all pussies and don't want to cut funding to anything in their districts. Since funding has to be cut across the board, that's a big obstacle to passing the budget. Once the shutdowns happen, cutting funding will be more popular among their constituents than completely stopping the government.

That is the usual way of it, but this time a major factor in the situation is the refusal of the Republicans to vote on anything budget relatated (and the Republicans are usually all for cutting spending). They want to force a government shutdown under the Democrat's watch in an attempt to win back the majority and the Governorship.

  • Which is going to fail them miserably when everyone votes them out for being a retarded opposition party that shut down the government.
  • Except no one is smart enough to actually do that. That's the worst thing about what the Republicans are doing, they're gonna get away with it.
  • I got a bad score on my test...so I won't get the necessary 2.7 GPA on the Course for it to count towards my Communications Major. /sob, why do I fail so much at tests? Tests are so fucking ball-busting and weighted in college that it's murdering me in most of my classes.

At this point, I'm also questioning why DO they make tests so fucking important. In this age, it feels like you will always have opportunity to research the information without getting punished. It only feels like you need to detain loads of information if you were to get into something physical like War. It's making me bitter over this whole fucking experience. >_>

eh, take the class again. You'll do better the second time. Also why are you in Communications anyway? the only people I've ever met who were going for communications were people who can't communicate :-p (what can you really do with that degree anyway).

    Quite a few fails

I decide that I'm getting bored of my 360 as I both have few games and have played the hell out of them lately. I have many Gamecube games that scream for me to replay them, so that's what I decided to do. I could not find a single GameCube Controller in my home at all. When I was remodeling my room and taking everything out, I might have absentmindedly put it in the throw away box. Regardless it was gone and I was pissed, so I went down and bought a new one. It was a GameStop controller and was the only one there. It's pretty cheap (as in the construction of said controller) and feels like it was glued together with Macaroni Paste, but it would have to do. I fire up Metroid Prime and am ready to hunt some Space Pirate tuchus! But...the best thing in the world that could possibly occur happened. My memory card has somehow become corrupt and the data is unsalvageable and the possibility of space for new data is impossible. Therefore this made my newly bought (albeit poorly made) controller utterly useless. I am pretty steamed.

  • (what can you really do with that degree anyway).
Go into television, advertising, journalism, public relations, etc. It is actually a pretty great jumping off degree for a lot of fields.
  • Couldn't you get a degree in Journalism or advertising or Film?
  • Couldn't you get a degree in Journalism or advertising or Film?
Film and Journalism are incredibly limited. Advertising has great potential, but it is still requires knowing specific people and perhaps having art skill. I can't think of majors that are pure advertising, but Advertising is a sect of the majors. Communications give you the power to sell. Communications is great because it's flexible and it's still wanted.

I'm into Communications because that's what I'm skilled at. I'm most talented as someone who communicates with others to talk/listen to them or to suggest/recommend or debate. I've been in the Business Department before, it's Soulless Hell. Communications, Public Speaking and Public Relations is what I'm great at. Hell, it amazes me that so many students can't talk and look at an audience at the same.

    I just...suck at tests.
  • I just...suck at tests.
I advise you get better, life is a never ending series of tests.
  • I'm just saying, I've never met someone who majored in Communications ever be good at communications in the real world :-p (that's my observation of the people I know who have majored in Communications, not to be expanded beyond that). I.E. I am irrationally biased against people who are communication majors due to that experience.
  • InStockTrades needs to CONFIRM ITS FUCKING ORDERS.
  • I found that the top layer of one of my hollow bodied guitars has pulled away from the rest of the body. Contacted the manufacturer to ask what's up. My gear collection is slowly imploding on itself. -___-
  • Film and Journalism are incredibly limited.

Fail of My Day, My truck(2006 Volvo 630VN) has nearly 740,000 miles on it and it's really starting to show its age.

The turbo started to throw temper tantrums last night while I was climbing up into the Rockies where it would cut out for a minute where it would not turbo and the truck would slow to a CRAWL and then BOOM(not literally) full turboing.

We've been having a lot of trouble with this truck because my boss usually runs Kenworths and this was his first Volvo which is a very different machine, it's also his first truck that runs with EGR valves and this has the first generation EGR valves which means they break a lot. My boss is sick of this truck, I love it because it's a Volvo(very european interior style and layout) but hate it because of all these turbo related and emission related problems, so he is getting rid of it soon and will replace it with a Kenworth.

Anyway back to my fail of the weekend. I am 1000 miles from home and it's the weekend meaning no shops are open only standby which costs a fortune and may not be able to fix it until the week, so I am going to try to bring it back home and hopefully get back by tomorrow.

Edit: One cool thing about this Volvo is that it will tell you exactly what is wrong with it rather than just lighting the CHECK ENGINE light, but the issue right now is that it does not notice anything wrong with the turbo, even though the turbo stops working all together.
