After several days, and trying every solution I can (repairing the HDD, doing a system restore, doing a refresh, and even doing a factory reset) and my computer STILL is BSOD'ing due to a kernel error. Edit: It appears to be occurring every 3-4 hours as well.
There's nothing on what kind of kernel error it is? It could be better, but you'll probably need to reinstall your OS.
I can copy the report from WhoCrashed if you like. And reinstalling from a disk isn't an option as I don't HAVE a disk. I think it has a hidden partition because the drive was untouched and there was some disk space left over between C: and
If you hold F8 when Windows starts you can get an advanced startup options menu; if your computer has a recovery partition it might have an option there.
My work colleague just worked for ages trying his absolute best and completely fucked up an excel spreadsheet. The file he gave me was nonsense, he'd effectively reordered the entries in most of the columns by using "sort" incorrectly. I had to give him my back up file and set it up in a way that he could use and tell him to start at the beginning again.
Or you could simply do a system recovery, do you not do any backup or system imaging on a regular basis?
Thing is I did a recovery, a restore, a refresh, and finally a full wipe of the computer. It hasn't crashed in a day or so though, but I -know- computers don't self-repair.
In modern America? With the shit these people already put up with? With politicians so in ned with the industry? I want there to be but I don't see it.
So today at work I was using a new tool for my purposes. Maybe someone is familiar with it here, it's called Kettle Spoon and it's basically a sort of visual scripting tool for data manipulation and transfer. One of the "steps" in it requires some configuration in which you have to select an item. It comes with a sort of file browser attached to a textbox, typical setup like you see with attachments for e-mails etc.
So I try to configure it. I try to manually enter into the textbox and nothing happens. I click on browse and highlight the item and hit enter. Nothing happens. I attempt to double-click it. Nothing happens. The "actions" menu in the top right of the browser window also doesn't respond.
I get a colleague who has a little bit more familiarity with the tool (he is the liaison to our support). We do all the same things. Nothing wrong here. He tells me to write to the support and gives me some e-mail addresses to contact. I do so.
The response is "maybe the 'OK' button is hidden because the window is too small" and the first thing in my mind is "what 'OK' button? There is none". Well, I do the same thing again and resize the window and suddenly an OK and Cancel button pop up.
I feel kind of dumb for not attempting to resize. In my defense though, usually these sort of popup-browsing extensions for text fields are usually not resizable. The buttons not having shown before is a definite bug though, and it's also dumb that common selection methods like double-clicking or highlight+enter aren't working. And the actions menu showing no response is just plain weird.
That's a legit picture of Glenwood Ave. Car fire and all. What you don't see is off to the right, there's a big hill that people are trying to make it up/down and failing hard.
Northwestern NC got hit pretty hard. I spent the morning rolling six deep in the back of a pickup truck full of snow shovels, helping landscaping crew dig the campus out.
Went to use my new Amazon Prime account to order a set of 4GBx2 Ballistix Tactical DDR3-1600 to match the currently installed set.
Problem is I forgot I have the Low Profile 1.35v installed and not the regular height 1.5v installed.
I just went to install the parts last night... and looks like I ordered the 1.5v sticks.
So now it's $8.15 to return to Amazon and a $10 price difference between the two versions and I don't know whether its worth it because it should all be able to run at the same voltage anyway as I was told 1.5v is the standard for DDR3 that all sticks must be able to handle.
And even if I wanted to drive to the mailbox and return the sticks, it's
Those kinds of problems are the hallmark of shitty "enterprise" software.
Embroidery software, dude. What it should be like: Photoshop with stitches. What it's actually like: The inbred bastard child of GIMP at it's worst, Crossed with Excel. And let's not forget DRM in the form of two thousand dollar USB keys, which works about half as well as it should. Ugh.
