War has been declared on Youtube and/or Warner Music Groups

  • No, Youtube is like an extremely huge truck full of tubes with smaller trucks driving around in them.
  • I don't see this as a bad thing. If the content removed from youtube is popular with the public, another service will spring up that creates a forum for the content removed from youtube.
  • Also, I took a look through the list of labels under Warner and I didn't see that many notable bands, to be quite honest with you. Anyone care to point out what I'm missing?
Anyone? This was not a joke question...
  • I'd say there are quite a few notable bands.
    For example:

Thankfully they uploaded this one themselves.
  • Tom freakin' Waits, Atmosphere, and Opeth? Really? Those are Warner bands?

What the hell? I searched that on Wikipedia before I even asked that question and all I came up with was a list of lower branches of Warner Music.

Out of that list, more of my favorite bands are on that list than I though. On the other hand, almost every band that I completely hate is on that label, too.

The same is true for all the major labels. Lots of bands you like, lots of bands you hate.

Almost any arbitrary list of band will be populated with likeable and unlikeable band.

Guys, guys, I don't think you guys quite understand. There are bands that I don't care for, there are bands I just simply dislike, and then there's Warner's list of (and I'm gonna get flamed for this) AC/DC, Metallica, Nickelback, Sean Paul, Disturbed, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco, Shinedown, and Staind.

Like really, if I were to name every band I HATE, it's on Warner. I don't think I could say the same about any other label, especially cause my top 10 most hated bands are listed above (ok so maybe 1 or 2 of my top 10 are on another label, but still).

Some of the band names on the list ring a bell, but the only two that I actually know are AC/DC and Metallica. It's understandable if you hate Metallica, even though their old music is awesome. It's really no different than hating Michael Jackson, even though his old music is awesome.

However, hating AC/DC! WTF! Respect minus a hojillion. Unforgiveable.

  • Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Panic at the Disco
Hating these three bands is however perfectly understandable.

I don't even know these three bands.
  • They're rather new. I watch a lot of MTV2 and those three are all over the place...
  • Dkong1026: You don't like any Metallica? Really? None at all? I mean, I can sort of understand disliking the stuff between Load and St. Anger (inclusive), but the new album is amazing and their old stuff is some of the best heavy metal ever written.
  • I personally don't hate Metallica, but I don't really like any of their songs very much. Master of Puppets (the song) was ok, and a couple of others, but overall, I still don't really like Metallica all that much. Just my opinion, though!

I don't really like any of those "emo" bands either, like you mentioned. My Chemical Romance and Panic at the Disco, to be exact about the ones you listed. I pretty much feel the same as mentioned in that episode of Geeknights- "I don't really like them or their music, but I don't bother them and they don't bother me, so It's all good."

Being personally offended by music you don't like is something you just grow out of. Hopefully.

    Counterexample.

    Consider yourself lucky.

I'm sorry, but that dude's voice is annoying as hell. I like TNT and I respect them as a band. I just really don't care for them.
Dkong1026: You don't likeanyMetallica? Really? None at all?
Well, the only Metallica I've ever heard is the stuff that's on the radio. None if it has given me any desire to go look up any of their other songs. The only song I can really say that I like from them is Enter Sandman. I can handle Master of Puppets. Otherwise the dude's voice is annoying and the music isn't spectacular IMO.

Anyone know what's up with Senses Fail, Between the Buried and Me, and Primus videos on Youtube? Recently I was looking up John the fisherman for Primus and the video was either taken off, or the video could only be posted without sound. All the video descriptions said Youtube forced them to do that.
Then one of my friends told me to look up a Between the Buried and Me and a Senses Fail song, and the same shit happened with them that happened with the Primus video. Also, with BTBAM, most of the videos were live only.

I don't believe that any of those bands are on Warner, either...[but I figured it would be worth posting here]

  • Hm, I have no idea. Primus is on Les Claypool's own label, or on Interscope, which is a UMG label.

Also, you should listen to ...And Justice for All. The album is quite good. And listen to Puppets stuff that isn't "Master of Puppets;" you may find some interesting stuff there.
  • I looked up some Primus videos just the other day. I found and watched them without trouble.
  • LOL, when did I say I was offended my Metallica's music? I just don't like them, that's all. ^_^

Actually, I was directing that at Dkong, but you should listen to more Metallica too! :P

Yep, almost every song by them is available, but try searching for John the Fisherman and you'll be SOL.
Actually, same with Senses Fail. Look for "Can't Be Saved" and the official video will be up. [seemingly] Anything else is getting fucked over, though.

I was actually directing that at Funfetus, lol. They've got some cool songs, but overall they aren't my cup of tea.

I, in turn, was directing that at people who ARE offended by bands they don't like, as distinct from people like you, who know better.

Ah, that clears it up. I guess if I look at it that way then it makes more sense.

Wow, I missed a lot today, and I skipped over a bunch in this thread, so forgive me if this has already been said.

Scott, you do not have a right to fair use on YouTube. You have a right to fair use if you provide the medium and resources by which the content is provided. If you were putting fair-use content on your personal site, nobody could stop you. But in this case, YouTube is providing the hosting and the interface. You have a right to use their service only by their terms, and you agree to those terms by using their service.

  • So YouTube is within their power to let this happen then? I can't help thinking that it is really ridiculous, though. Is Warner planning to make their own music video site or something, or are they throwing a wobbly about copyrights?
