My super (starting to get) awesome list of everything I should watch/read/whatever

  • If you like Daft Punk check out Interstella 5555. You will get to experience the entire Discovery album, plus watch an oldschool style anime by Toei! It's a win win in my book.

Also, check out Justice, they are another French electronic duo that are doing great stuff.
  • This list is impossible. What do you like and what have you read/watched/listened to?

I'm open minded, but there are some things I wouldn't touch. I've rejected slayer, and even then I listened to some songs on youtube which showed me nothing special. I guess for music I don't like metal, hip-hop, and rap (but I'm sure there are exceptions). I know pretty much nothing about anime, I can't give you my opinion on that. For that matter, I haven't watched that many TV shows although I guess my favorite genre would be...comedy? I don't know if sit-coms are synonymous with comedy or if they're a sub-genre, but don't let my preferences get in the way of your suggestions. This list of for broadening my horizons. Your suggestions shouldn't be based on what I like, but rather they should avoid what I dislike. I made this because I have matured enough to understand movies beyond just the shallowness of action scenes and guns going pew pew pew. I want to experience what would have bored me as a kid. You don't have to mention things that have a cult following. Neither do you have to mention the most popular shows simply because they are popular. I think maybe only 5 items recommended by other people are things that I have already watched.

Basically, I haven't consumed enough media to determine my preferences except for music. The likelihood of me already having seen your suggestion is quite small.
  • So what kind of music DO you like? Name some artists. There's a lot of interesting stuff in the hip-hop/rap area that's actually really good; it's all small-time and underground, but there are very talented people out there.

I have no idea if you're into his stuff or not, but Nick Cave's newest album (Dig, Lazarus, Dig!) is phenomenal. Check it out. (mildly NSFW)

Well, I love coldplay, with their second album being my favorite. There was that music in the TOTD thread with the phoenix wright turned into orchestral music which was pretty good. I also like Depapepe, pretty much all of their albums. Jet Set Radio Future is a game with a pretty sweet soundtrack that I listen to. Nifflas creates some nice BGM music. Animal collective is interesting to say the least; it's different and I don't hate it so it stays in my collection. I absolutely love the cinematic music created by E.S Posthumus. I like Kansas, especially Song for America. I sort of like comedic rap. There was that one song called Figjam by an australian hip-hop band, and it's why I think Eminem produces less blood in my ears than the typical gangster stuff I see all the time (stereotyping, I know). Generally, I am not a fan of simplistic music (oh no, internet debate approaching. These are my personal thoughts!) like hip-hop and rap which is meant to be something more than just background music. For example, techno music is something i would put on the background. A song by Yes is something I would actively listen to. Basically, I don't mind music that's simplistic of it's not something you're meant to listen to and enjoy, ceasing all other activities. Anyway, I have better background music than rap and hip hop. I'm also not interested in metal, although maybe it's because it's something that I find a bit hard to get into. However, it's something that I have been exposed to many times but I still don't enjoy. I don't think my dislike of metal will change. Tettix is awesome.

Mmm...Not bad. It has piqued my curiosity.

Also, if anyone knows any 8-bit music or music with 8-bit stylings, that would be a plus. It's a bit hard to find that sort of music, and I think the technology crisis album from Tettix demonstrates what I mean by 8-bit quite well. Nostalgia ftw! For example:

  • Pretty much this, The Wire is the second greatest T.V show ever and has some of the greatest characters ever written for T.V, Omar for example.
I'd actually go with The Wire for "Best Thing On Film, Period."

Nah, Band of Brothers is better.

Whoa. Well done, sir, well done.

Woah, back up man. Personal thoughts they may be, but you obviously haven't heard enough Hip-Hop if you think it's all simplistic. That's painting with a bit of a broad brush, don't you think? Check out Aesop Rock at least.

Not everybody's cup of tea, but simplistic it is not.

Oh! Check out Super Multifaros. He's made a ton of awesome music with 8-bit stylings, and it's all free. I recommend getting the "We Are Giants" LP first.

It's so obvious and everyone already knows it, but someone has to say it.
  • I've learned about Math rock and progressive rock, and I'm really loving the style. I have some new bands that I love, which are 65daysofstatic, Lite, and Minus the Bear (Lite especially). The only problem with this genre is that there are barely any youtube videos up of the bands except for low quality live versions.

This song certainly interests me, and it's pretty good. I like this song, and I checked out some of the other songs by Aesop rock and I believe the other one I liked was "None Shall Pass". I made those statements about simplicity knowing I would be proven wrong, especially since I was imaging Soulja Boy at the time of writing. I enjoy this song better than almost every song in the hip-hop thread.

Oh, and Super Multifaros is awesome.

That figures. Most of the music in the hip-hop thread is hip-hop for the hip-hop fans. You don't show a non-anime fan your favorite show to get them into anime, know what I'm saying?

Some other Hip-Hop albums to check out would be Labor Days by Aesop Rock, Deltron 3030 by Deltron 3030, Game Theory by The Roots, and No Commercial Breaks by Scroobius Pip.
