Hay iam from London what did you think of it? Bit boring isent it.
Dude, check out Forbidden Planet and Orbital manga and you will find some cool people who will like all the geeky things you like. Plus come to one of the MCM expos and we could hang out :P
Halo? Are you really that ignorant of Aliens and Terminator?
Listen, I like Halo as much as the next guy (regular, non-fanboy, FPS-enjoying guy, that is) but it's the most derivative shooter on any platform. It combines ideas from Cameron's films and lots of other mediums -- read John Steakley's Armor and tell me that Halo isn't ripped from its pages. Starship Troopers. To say that anything is deriving something from Halo is hilarious to me.

That was a first impression, but I have come to realize it does indeed borrow much from Cameron's other movies. I would also like to make the point that I am not a fan of Cameron's movies. However, I will admit that the first Terminator was pretty damn good, but I felt that Aliens (while a somewhat good movie) really broke away from the formula that made Alien one of my favorite movies ever. Alien successfully blended sci-fi and horror together which was a match made in heaven in my opinion and as a result I'm a little eh on Aliens .
That isn't to say I didn't enjoy Aliens (which I did), but not that much. I really feel like this is more of the same Cameron that I've come to know and experience. However as a side note, I am quite interested in his Battle Angel Alita adaptation next year and I am wondering what he will do. What I do know is that he may make Alita a CG character which makes warning bells in my head go off.
One more observation I'd like to make if anyone cares enough to read anymore (no one will I bet). I have noticed lately that manga is slowly starting to be picked up by film producers e.g. Spielberg making Oldboy, the upcoming Astro Boy movie, and the aforementioned Battle Angel Alita. I wonder if this manga trend will get picked up and given the same treatment as all the underwear pervert/graphic novel adaptations that Hollywood just keeps churning out their asses. I am excited about burst of manga adaptations, but I would like to say that I was excited when X-Men came out and I said to myself that I wanted more, that was over 10 years ago and now I'm just sick of it. I really hope I won't have to come to that resentment about manga film adaptations. Sorry if I made this ridiculously long rant, but I felt it was warranted as I had a lot to say about Cameron and the trend of manga film adaptations, and MitchyD just gave me a springboard and I took the high-dive.

James Cameron is, essentially, an action movie director. Aliens is one of the best action movies ever made, and it doesn't try to be anything else. You shouldn't expect it to be anything else.

Agreed. As we've just seen from his Avatar trailer, the 3D technology just isn't there when it comes to rendering realistic humanoid characters. I don't even know why you'd bother. She isn't some creature like the Avatar critters. She's human (looking). Just get some girl that can do martial arts.

I don't think that is the best idea, because need I remind you of the horrible, poorly shot, incomprehensible, and terrible movie called Æon Flux?
I second this statement wholeheartedly! It is Spiderman syndrome. They certainly could have filmed the actor or a stunt man, but instead chose to use glaring CG that breaks with the aesthetic of the rest of the film.

I thought a bit more about this when I was falling asleep last night. They'd almost certainly have to use some CG for Alita, as some fairly fantastical things happen with her cyborg body over the course of the series, as well as the fact that some of the martial arts are WAY over the top. It couldn't be too hard to have an actress wear a motion-capture suit, and render the body in CG where necessary. At least that way, you get a human head. CG technology at this point is great for just about anything but actual human faces. Also, they wouldn't have to limit themselves to martial-artist actresses -- they could get someone who can really look and play the part, and rely on the effects for the martial arts.
I went to the 15 minute IMAX 3D preview of Avatar a couple of days ago. It's beautiful to look at; the 3D is well done, but it's no game-changing bridge between CGI and live action. I think it's going to be one of those films that shows its age really early on. In fact, I would put forth that there have already been movies that better incorporate live action and CGI together, though none on this scale. Then again, he can always re-render the CGI in the future.
The story we were presented with seemed straightforward enough. I get the impression that it's going to be like Dances With Wolves on an alien world. It looks fun and I've enjoyed everything that Cameron's put out to date.

You can remind me of it, but I don't see it's relevant. Like, at all.
Um have you ever seen Æon Flux? From what I remember (I've divorced most of that movie from my mind, but I'll go back and see what I can remember. It basically had a girl doing kung fu and being all stealthy-like in a revealing black spandex jumpsuit. If I'm wrong (which I probably am) strike down with lightning.
Let me summarize Lordyupa's argument: There exists a terrible movie with a girl doing kung-fu, therefore all movies with a girl doing kung-fu are terrible. I don't think I need to say anything more.

No, I didn't see it. I'm too smart for that. Regardless, your argument doesn't follow. It sounds like that all has a lot more to do with the screenwriting, direction, and cinematography. Even if it has to do with the acting, it's not as if Charlize Theron is known for her martial arts skills. Lackofcheese already nailed it -- you're taking one movie that had a particular element, and extrapolating it to all movies that may have that same element. Or are we missing something?
