Catholic Church attempts to extort Washington D.C.

Well, I guess some people really have a big problem with the Constitution and that pesky first amendment:
The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington said Wednesday that it will be unable to continue the social service programs it runs for the District if the city doesn't change a proposed same-sex marriage law, a threat that could affect tens of thousands of people the church helps with adoption, homelessness and health care.
I am fucking disgusted.

    We discussed this in the fail thread. It was pointed out that the DC council would be sad to see the church leave their partnership, but aren't going to be held hostage by them.

    EDIT: Also, as much I don't want to stick up for the Catholic church, they're within their rights to do this. If they want to be stick in the muds about this, let them be.

    I see it as pretty clear cut.:
    Church: Follow our religious doctrine or we're not going to help your city.
    D.C.: There are other people who will do public works without extortion. If you don't want our public money, than leave.

    As a Catholic I am very dissapointed, but then again I dissagree with many things that they think. I am mostly Catholic because of the "Tradition".
