Plans and goals for 2010

I have to juggle the opportunity of being in the US for entertainment with practical considerations - in particular, financial considerations and the fact that I'm 4 out of 5 years through university (dual degree), but taking a semester off.

As such, my goal is to further my financial position and/or my education, but especially make future opportunities, while I'm in the USA.

  • So far? Figure out whether money or complete and total enjoyment of my job is important to me (Engineering vs. Bio), and then declare my major.

I'll have a bigger list later, but my overall feelings about New Year's Resolutions are the ones conveyed in "My Year In Lists" by Los Campesinos...

...Change things when things need to be changed.
  • Wear a jacket/blazer to work every day (as opposed to almost every day)
Go skiing at least six times
Run three miles in under 21 minutes consistently
Either regain my trumpet lips or significantly improve my harmonica skills
Make an e-commerce site for GeekNights ;^)
Force Otakon to commit to mailing out the damn badges
Complete a handful of secret projects
  • You left out reading them comics I sent you ;-).
  • -Bench press 300LBS.
    -Cut down on negative excess.
  • -Bench press 300LBS.
    One rep?
  • I'm adding drawing one thing everyday. I'll keep me from having drawing spells and droughts.
  • -Bench press 300LBS.
    One rep?
I'm shooting for at least 3 reps. I did 275x6 last night after taking 2 weeks off. My body hates me for this.

Side rant: Gyms should offer etiquette classes for new members. Seriously n00bs... WTF!?!

Some gyms here in the City just ban you if you grunt and yell and throw weights around or otherwise act intimidating.

Any gym would ban you for that activity. The most common issues aren't that flagrant, like hogging machines or interrupting a circuit.

Or sitting on a machine for 15 minutes while you talk on your cell phone... Will start a new thread on this one later...
  • Get better at guitar and start writing my own music
    Make a simple video game
    Get into better shape

I'd be happy to accomplish any one of those.
  • - Keep my newly started blog alive and active through the year.
    - Start studying more seriously and keep on studying like that.
    - Exercise more.
    - Get either a summer job, or take classes for summer.
    - Have more active social life.
    - Play more rpgs, different games, different groups.
    - Find more goals.
  • 1) Finish my film before the Year of the Rabbit.
    2) Start a web comic project that gathers a community around it
    3) Make an awesome reel. Learn all the stuff in the Art of Rigging. Keep getting better at my 3D stuff.
    4) Start the Laundromat comic (serious) and the Geekhaus comic (funny) - See resolution 2.
    5) Run 3 miles easily, work on upper body training. 60+ elevated crunches.
    6) Keep my job and release at least 2 more games.
    7) Cook dinner at least 3 times a week.
    8) Make out with darling Rym a lot.
    9) Finish learning all the Joyo Kanji.
    10) Start a scanlation group for cool manga.
  • 8) Make out with darling Rym a lot.
Hey, that was one of my goals for the year too.
  • Okay, here's some things:

    - Continued success with my current show.
    - Make my new show, with the working title of "Room".

Unfortunately these two are at odds, as one requires me to travel, and the other requires me to be in Berlin. So, while I'm in Berlin, I should be working on my new show every day. Or that was the plan. However, I've been home for almost two days now, and all I've not even started. I hope tomorrow I can find the inspiration I need.

Other new year's resolution: while I'm working on a cruise ship, I have to visit the gym every day. My next trip includes 12 days at sea (to Antarctica and back) so I have plenty of time to kill.
  • 1) Finish my film before the Year of the Rabbit.
    What film?
  • What film?
THE film, the animated short I have been working on for the past few years.
  • -Learn how to be a better Sysadmin
    -Start learning python again
-Go to the gym and get in shape
-Make money, pay off my debts, and finally have a positive net worth
    -Get back into Kendo
-Join some RIT clubs and meet people from RIT (I know far more UR people right now)
-Have awesome classy dinner parties every two weeks (co-hosting with a UR friend)
-Become a better cook, grow an herb garden, learn new cuisines
    -Start writing more
    -Fix/upgrade my desktop
-Attend Otakon, Katsucon, and PAX East for the first time (if I can afford it)
-Infiltrate the web of conspiracy and intrigue that is RIT faculty and administrator politics
-Become better at guitar, get back into violin
    -Read more, if physically possible
-do more photography and (hopefully) videography
    -Learn more Kanji

Jesus Christ I want to do a lot of stuff this year.

  • I.Grow older (birthday 1/22, probably my first goal.)
    II.Continue with my biological processes.
    III.Become a better artist.
    A.3D art.
    B.2D Art.
    C.10D art.
    D.Musician.
IV.Go back to school, which I know is unrealistic with my wedding coming up in October.
V.Successfully avoid the little mental explosions I get when I see my dearest.

Ok, now that you're done vomiting...

    VI. release a solo CD
VII. to be able to go through the whole year without reproducing. (I don't want to be a father not until my mid-thrities.)

    STFU. I'm working on it.

You've mentioned things like this before. Would you care to specify?

Woah...take it easy. No need to get touchy, I'm just excited that you are getting near the end of an artistic work that you have worked years on to finish. I'm also echoing what you said to me once, which was said during the time when Sonic made the "Emily sempai" conversation.

Well, everything in the library building just restructured, including Online Learning, the Library, and the Academic Technologists (people who teach faculty), among others. There's a big hubbub about reorganizing people, and lots of politicking and secret alliances. In this environment, I can learn a lot and hopefully do a little Kelhus'ing of my own (to become more important in the organization, get a better job/pay increase, learn how the university runs, and generally figure out how to read people better).

tl;dr: I want to increase my circles and reputation to shade grey.

One piece of advice: read anything you don't like as sarcasm. Seriously, though, Emily was clearly not entirely serious.

And here I thought only 12 year old girls could get away with acting like drama queens.

Obviously, You've not spent enough time around actors.

You really wouldn't say that if you knew anything about Kate!
