Started watching this earlier this week. I wasn't going to start watching this yet, I'm still middle of Keaton and Captain Harlock, but I wanted to test if Crunchyroll works here. So I watched the first episode and after that I was so hooked, that I have been rushing it through. Will start watching episode 15 after writing this.
Comparison to Baccano is easy to do. I liked the setting, style and music of Baccano better, but otherwise Durarara is superior, characters are better, more thigh narrative works better and it just feels better. Really liked fist opening and ending of Durarara (but the opening of Baccano, is one of my all time favorites). Don't really like the second opening and ending that much.
Waiting for the OVA episode for now. Dunno about a second season. I mean it would be great if one was to come, but I don't want them to rush it. Also not sure how much material is there from the light novels.
Anyways, the series was amazing, and the last episode had some really great moments in it as well.
From what I gathered the 24 episodes we've had thus far cover the first three light novels. I had not heard about an OVA episode, but regardless, there are 7 light novels out with an 8th upcoming. So there's plenty of material for a second season and some OVAs.
It ranges greatly from being plot critical (so that people will buy the DVDs to understand wtf was going on) to being the worst filler episode for the entire season. You'll have to wait and see.

Nice work on that. Though you should've totally made a photo of the moon. A small one because moons are RIDICULOUSLY HUGE, ALWAYS outside of real life.

Speaking of which, I wish there would be more light novel translations coming out. Since the American publishers put the kibosh on scanlations, I might like to go that route when I have a little more time. It's nice to translate prose, because you don't have to worry about scanning, Photoshop, and all those kinds of things. My project that I want to do (If I ever get more free time) is work on translating the Kiki's Delivery Service Novels. They go up to when Kiki is the same age as me! The first volume is out in English officially, but the cover is ugly and the translation bland. I'm reading them in Japanese, and by comparison, the author's prose is so much more vibrant and full of character.

I don't have the English volume with me. It is at my parent's house. I just remember reading it and being underwhelmed. It wasn't that it was wrong or anything, just that the adaptation of the text was overly literal and boring. The lady is a decent translator, but is not an author. A translation should read like English was it's first language, and you should be surprised when you look in the cover page and see that it was translated from German or French or something. Example of a good translator: The guy who translates Murakami's novels. He has obvious talent for writing.

They did Spice and Wolf too. My parents said it was terrible, but I haven't read it. I also remember that FMA novels came out a while back, as well as Kino's Journey (I think). I have a tough time keeping track, because I don't pay that much attention to releases.
Whoa, I did not know that was out in English. I read the novel in Japanese, It's pretty grim. He takes drugs and talks to his appliances, and his eroge making otaku friend looks at loli-porn.

This is a series that definitely demands another viewing at some point; there's plenty to pick up on, I think.
