Very true... I'm also a bit concerned that most of the pictures they have of that thing pretty much just show children holding it with no adult supervision present, even if it's just slung on their shoulders or whatnot. If the images were instead of a child at a gun rage with an adult supervisor right next to him or her, it would be better. I'm also questioning the notion that a rifle is an appropriate gift for a 5-year-old, even if an adult will always be supervising its use. 8-10 maybe, but 5 is a bit too young. Hell, even my gun crazy uncle, who schooled me a bit on proper gun safety when he was showing me his guns (and he knows his stuff as a veteran of the Portuguese Colonial Wars in Africa), never even dreamed of the idea of getting his grandkids any sorts of guns.
I can see that concern, certainly. I was figuring it would be one of those gifts where it's nominally theirs, but in reality it's just one that the parents own, for the kids to use at times and places of their choosing, living right next to their father's rifle in the gun-safe.
I learned gun safety (and how to shoot a pistol) when I was around 12 or so. Coincidentally, that's right around the time that I started learning how to drive (on my grandmother's ranch out in Arizona, where there were no drivers for 20 miles in either direction).
It's pretty great. I'm strongly considering breaking my usual avoidance of kickstarter just to back this.
There's even a local Games Workshop store near me that does regular mini-tournaments, and they allow model substitution...Cue the newest chapter on the scene, the Emperor's Arseholes.
Staring into the abyss. At least that's the one good thing about the age of Facebook and Twitter: The people you want to avoid out themselves regularly.
Worst I see is some friends I know have some level of mental health problems wildly fluctuating between healthy and unhealthy. That, and a couple friend's families being... awkward in similar ways. One reason I keep family separate from those things.
tl;dr Developer makes a demo for a game about sinking ships, bizdevvy "idea guy" partners with him, makes an Indiegogo campaign (against the dev's wishes) promising a bunch of features, and the campaign reached $4,500. Shit hits the fan as the dev guy tries to extricate himself from the situation, and the bizdev guy makes excuses for keeping the money. A bunch of backers (including me) complain. The situation hasn't been resolved yet.

Wait, you can't just pull your money back on Indiegogo before the campaign ends? Fuck. That. Shit.
Though it looks like there have been new developments since your comment, YoshoKatana:
Don’t worry. I will cancel the campaign and send back all the money.
Sadly there are some bad points. I had to pay Paypal’s fee plus indiegogo’s fee. this mean i lost about 12% of all the donation is gone.
Yeah. The dev guy has been really nice about all this, and is going to give away the game to backers when he's done, but even he's trying to get this shut down. Also, this is pretty much the last time I'll use Indiegogo for anything now that I know how their funding model actually works.
Yeah. Pretty much all of this would have been solved by the dev guy actually having a proper contract that had clauses that actually dealt with this stuff.
I went looking for a Happy Birthday image to post to a friend's FB wall. Unfortunately I found this, which seemed to require some sort of action, so I'm leaving it here.

EDIT: OK not exactly, but still kind of fun to think about.
This thread summed up in a nutshell. Also what I imagine it's like to read an Elder Scroll. Best if watched in fullscreen.
And is that Draco on the right?
I found the original image and my new WTF is how they're actually less hot with their real faces.
Except for Bubbles. Bubbles looks almost the same :P
