I would draw a distinction (as others have) between TV (the medium, consisting of 22 minutes of show and 8 minutes of advertising, per half-hour), and a TV show (the actually 22 minutes of content). Some TV shows are great, but I was watching TV this morning (crashing at a friend's house, didn't have her DVDs, and wasn't coffeed enough to read a book), and it was just painful. Every few minutes there was some shitty ad for some random bullshit.

This has made TV unbearable to me. Fucking commercials pop up right after the intro of a show! I can't even watch 2 minutes in piece? Even worse is when the ads are almost right at the end of a show. There'll be a commercial break, only for the show to come back just to say "see ya next week".
I on occasion like to watch Man versus Food on Netflix. Most of my viewing entertainment is anime, youtube and movies.
You do realize that most anime was intended for broadcast TV, even if not in your country? That's also pretty much why I had to include that in my statement as there is only very little TV that is actually domestically produced here in austria. Most of it is imported and I don't even watch that as most of what I watch is anime and the american TV shows I do watch, I watch in the original sound downloaded from the internet.

They raise the volume levels on the commercials as well. They started doing it on Hulu. Watching a TV show and commercials start blaring of my speakers. My roommate want to kill me half the time. I went back to usenet easiest way to get something to watch.
"Just a Little bit this way, and That's Birmingham"
Can't say anyone would miss it.
It is like fail Mythbusters.
I disagree. It's like mythbusters if Mythbusters was composed entirely of powerslides, Cockups, and british dudes.

There is actually a name for that - It's not increasing the volume, but it's something similar, so it seems louder, rather than actually being louder.

It is called normalizing, where the levels of the quietest sounds in the advert are brought closer to the levels of the loudest sounds, it makes the whole sequence sound louder. It is totally normal for audio engineers to do this to make audio louder without to much loss of quality . However it is done to a very high degree in adverts. It is a way of making the advert *loud* without breaking FCC/EU rules on how loud TV broadcasts can be. BTW free software for you to try it for yourself, I use it to edit audio.

So if a show is broadcasted to television and I don't watch the show when it was broadcasted. Because I can't or don't for whatever reason. Like not living in Japan or not owning a TV. But I later watch the show by downloading it off the internet and then watch it on my computer monitor. I am still watching TV. Correct?
overall I agree with the idea that broadcast t.v sucks ass and that the internet proves to be a better source of media but i still find it entertaining to watch on occasion. i have a mass amount of media on my HD and yet I still get exited my seeing the first episode of Cowboybebop on adult swim or some random Simpsons or south park episode late at night.

There's really two things that "watching TV" can refer to: Watching a TV broadcast on your TV; or watching TV programming regardless of medium. Since you are watching the later, you are technically still watching TV.
I told one of my television professors that this was going to happen and he swore up and down that TWC would NEVER do it. I told him they had to and the it was the best way because it unlocked a brand new customer base and that is basically free money. He still wouldn't believe it.
It used to be that war drove innovation, then it was the porn industry. Now, our lust for football will give us the push we need to achieve better broadband speed and access.
I unfortunately caved in and got NFL Network and RedZone. If I could just get those things to where I also get Game Rewind for just my local team for a decent price, I would so be down for that.
I watch the RedZone using my parent's U-Verse login.
Did you know the NFL Network RedZone we watch isn't the original or only RedZone? The DirectTV RedZone came first, is only available on DirectTV, and has this other dude, not Scott Hanson.
Did not know that. How I see it, during football season if I upgrade my current cable w/ HBO for NFL Network and Redzone (Sept - Feb) it's equivalent or less to that Direct TV streaming package. I didn't do a lot of investigating, but I believe both allow streaming on mobile devices, but I will rarely be in a situation that needs that sort of access.
Sundays are don't plan anything and do all errands before 10AM.

Didn't say the other RedZone was better. Scott Hanson is boss.

HBO will now be able to be streamed directly.
