Also, I poked around the "Media Information" disc, and I am allowed to show you guys this:
Thanks for the info, pretty adorable screenshot. Might want to spoiler some of that (?)
I hate to keep doing the "tell me more!" thing, but can you give us an idea of what fan-fare/woo-game amounts to, other than more Derpy (who really should only show up a couple times a season if they're not going to develop her but eh). Was it just a tonal thing? This was definitely a concern of mine going into the season. No worries if you can't go into details before the airdate or something.

I watched it too, so chiming in here: Derpy had a lot more screen time than I remember seeing before, but wasn't all that directly involved in the plot. For example, she was bobbing for apples with a bunch of younger ponies, maybe even running the game if I remember right. She wasn't derping all that much, just in one shot I think.
As a general, non-spoilery note: While the first two episodes of Season 2 were at least as good as anything in Season 1 IMHO, episode 3 and Luna Eclipsed both are far weaker episodes, at least with regard to narrative and script. Luna Rising (tons of spoilers now) has a few great lines here and there ("Pinkie Pie, you're a genius!" "No, I'm a chicken") and some really fun visuals (bat-pegasuses, Pinkie wearing a chicken suit, Pinkie laying an egg in the middle of running away scared), but the moral of our story felt forced, and the narrative that brought us there wasn't much fun. Basically what happens is there's a holiday called Nightmare Moon, much like Halloween, and Luna tries to participate in the festivities but totally lacks the social skills, and most of the mane six help her out. It almost felt like a PSA about Aspergers Syndrome at times. Shadoworc01 quite appropriately called it something like "Baby's First Forever War," as there was some Rip Van Winkle kinda stuff going on too.
Rarity is conspicuously missing from Luna Eclipsed. I can only hope that meant that throughout the episode, she was at home happily crafting last-minute costumes for everypony who hadn't planned ahead. And also hoping that this means our next episode will be Rarity-centric. Luna Eclipsed is T.Spark-centric, which may be part of why it falls flat. I love T.Spark because she's so very much like me, but man she bores me sometimes. FYI, the press release in the preview package said this episode airs Saturday 10/29, but the Hub website says Saturday 10/22. I wonder if that means it got moved up for some reason. Seems weird to think they would have let a typo slip onto all those mass-produced press kit CDs, but it does happen.
I'll own up to sending both of those screenshots in to EqD when I got to work this morning and they still hadn't been posted. The other one was from the Facebook page. There are also several of the costumes up on the Facebook page now. After a bit of internal debate I didn't link this thread because I didn't want to be responsible for flooding the forum with angry Luna fanboys.
I watched it too, so chiming in here:
Thanks for the extended info, that gives me a better idea of what to expect. Personally I liked Lesson Zero quite a bit, so I'm still hoping this is just a taste thing, but it never hurts to keep your expectations low. One super-geeky request, can you tell me who wrote this episode?
Yeah, that covers it, thanks! I'm definitely looking forward to getting a nice warm Rogers or Fullerton slice of life episode soon after so many big setting developing episodes to open the season. This show definitely has awkward/odd episode sequencing sometimes when it comes to chronological events, focus characters, and even writers. Also, since you mentioned it in your spoiler comments, episode 5 will be Rarity vs. Sweetie Belle over a family tradition according to the synopsis, which honestly had me more excited than this episode before I read the commentaries. Should be a nice change of pace.
Okay, I guess I'm staying out of this thread for the next few days. I wish you guys would have put those pics of the costumes behind a spoiler link, but whatev. I'll catch up later.

I don't know if it really counts as a spoiler. I mean, The Hub put that picture of RD on their facebook page. Besides, is it not the plot that matters?
I am both slightly mad, sad, and understanding right now. My favorite pony web-comic, (NSFW) Ask Pinkamina Diane Pie (NSFW), the tale of Pinkie Pie's murdering, torturing, and general disgracing of the ponies of Ponyville due to her lack friends, has just gone into a permanent hiatus. Reason being primarily a combination of a lack of enjoyment in the project and the comic's format not filling his/her intention for it. I'm mostly sad in the end. (-,_-)

I'm sure someone else will step up soon enough to bring you more images of Pinkie brutally murdering her friends and turning them into food or making out with children. Our hearts all have an empty place now.
Seriously? Like the internet is lacking pony torture-porn? I won't be missing it at all.

But...there was cute stuff too...like...
Askprincessmolestia?
:P
Holy fuck! It's not furry porn! I just find that the absurdity and irony of a murdering Pinkie Pie to be quite hilarious in the end.
Oh well, not that it matters anymore. Ending this conversation on a brighter note!

Read the blog post for the comic too.

Not sure if you wanted all that, but figured I'd err on the side of overkill.
